Welcome back Wayne
Has it gotten that bad that we are comparing ourselves with the regimes of those two countries?
I wanted to get it in before Dave had a go at the government.....and I only just made it if you look......

Not every droplet no, but the evidence seems to suggest the reduction is still useful.
The article suggests in it that a t-shirt is more effective than nothing for preventing the spread. Proper, effective ones are ideal, but anything is better than nothing.Where was the data mined from though? In California, are you being given instructions on how to put them on? Proper, effective ones, being distributed?

No we aren’t being given any instructions just told to wear homemade non surgical masks.Where was the data mined from though? In California, are you being given instructions on how to put them on? Proper, effective ones, being distributed?

As for the data, some of it was modeling, some from S Korea, also the difference between Czech and Austria
Natural experiments are scientifically imperfect, because there is no direct control group so we can’t be sure that any change is due to the masks. In some countries that introduced mask-wearing, other measures such as strict social distancing, school closures, and cancellation of public events happened at around the same time. Even in these cases, we can find relevant comparisons. For instance, European neighbors Austria and Czechia introduced social distancing requirements on the same date, but Czechia also introduced mandatory mask wearing. The Austrian case rate continued its upward trajectory, whilst Czechia’s flattened out. It wasn’t until Austria also introduced mask laws weeks later that the two counties returned to similar trajectories.

But wearing one gives the impression that you wont get it. A non surgical mask would not prevent droplets from a sneeze getting beyond one anyrate.
But thats the point I am making. In the UK, folk are not wearing them to prevent a spread, they think they make them immune.
Non surgical ones do limit the spread from sneezes and coughs. They might not be as good as a surgical mask but way better than no mask.
Sorry, don’t think I understand what you are trying to get at?Not having it, sorry. The graphs are largely similar. In terms of moves.
I am not saying that masks are useless, I am saying, for the general population, they are a placebo.
But...but...but....his presentation is improving. Useless incompetent twunt- like the rest of the cabinet. And where the feck is Sir Stammer in all this? What an absolutely useless incompetent shithouse of a man Matt Hancock is. Had the audacity on TV to say "there isn't enough demand for covid-19 tests" like testing should be getting done all over the country not just on people with obvious signs so we can have a good idea of the true transmission rate.
Not going out with a cough or a sneeze is way better than thinking a mask protects you.
Sorry, don’t think I understand what you are trying to get at?
Are homemade masks effective at stopping somone from picking up the virus themselves? No and quite probably are counterproductive as they reduce someone’s adherence to washing hands and an ill fitting mask increases the amount you touch your face.
But scientists do seem to be increasingly convinced that an asymptotic person can reduce their spread of the virus to others if they wear one.
