For the record...

Morgan also challenged the Government Minister about the Government’s crazy decision to allow the Cheltenham Festival to go ahead on the very day the WHO declared a global pandemic.

Minister had no response other than to hide behind Medical and Scientific Expert advice!

If I was Chris Witty and that other guy who stands behind one of those podiums on the daily updates I would get the hell out of here... it’s so clear that the Government are going to through them under the bus when the inevitable enquiry starts.

There are significant risks involved in locking down for the next 10 months or so though. The impact of poverty is well documented, and this pandemic is likely to result in a recession on a scale scarcely seen before. We're also seeing a reduction in visits to hospital, which might be due to our reduced activity, but there are also reports that people with bona fide illnesses are choosing to stay away for fear of getting the virus whilst they're there.
The NHS have even came out and told the public to go to hospital if they feel it is required, but the worry is that there'll be a large backlog down the line.

Also, I wonder how many people will suffer serious illness or worse death because they didn't receive treatment earlier?

I've seen a few things suggesting London might have already peaked, and any growth in the UK is now coming from elsewhere. It seems thus far as though the London hospitals have managed to cope with the demands placed upon them, which is positive. I'm not sure, for instance, how many of the 5,000 beds at the Nightingale in the Excel are occupied?
In NI we’re in the midst of a surge, but I’m hoping that it will plateau quickly as lockdown measures were introduced on a U.K. wide basis and NI was a week or two behind London.

My worry is that the lockdown is basically just a way of buying time so that we have everything in place to deal with the situation but we are no further forward than we were 3 weeks ago.
Make no mistake if the government was told that we could come out of this thing with 25000 deaths and it would all go away they would snatch your hands.
People have been telling us for years that the NHS is on its knees (many of us have seen it at first hand) but the government has chosen to ignore it, the chickens are coming home to roost.
If we come through this and I mean if not when I think that we should all be prepared to pay 5% of our earnings into the NHS because if there is one thing this has shown us that the most important thing we have is our health.

We already pay N.I., but I do agree with you. Having always paid for additional private health, I believe all healthcare money is money well spent.....

If you look back th main Butchers were Cameron, Osborne. and Clegg, and Vince Cable-our NHS stood still - NHS ring fenced social care butchered etc where are they now ? Camron Boris my best mate = they despise one another... 9 jobs Gideon Osborne I'm alright Jack.....Clegg working on Facebook - even when Labour get in next they will not be able to undo this mess overnight...... as @Bruce Wayne stated the evaluation of this pandemic should be sorted once we beat it - that's a long way down the line imo sadly.........politically it goes back to the era of austerity imo - any new government would be struggling to cope with those ideology ways of CUTS, and the people who have flew the nest.....
Not a kin scooby
Totally lost the lot here @COYBL25

Aye, there's almost certainly going to be a huge backlog of elective stuff. I sense that there's almost a perception that we'll lock down for a month and then that'll be that and we'll get back to normal again having 'defeated' the virus. Not sure that will be the case at all. I've read a few reports suggesting the economic fallout will be 5-10 years and it's hard to see society returning to what it was this year.

And tbh, I have no idea how other parts of the country fare in terms of healthcare capabilities. You see stats around differing spending on transport and so on, but I have no clue if the same applies for healthcare, ie if parts of the country have less capacity to deal with an outbreak than, say, London does. Obviously there are parts of the country with a toxic combo of an elderly population and few emergency care facilities (or staff), so you just hope there's enough for everyone.

It’s roasting today In the Midlands. I’ve just been having a water pistol fight in the garden with my granddaughter and I am now absolutely soaked...mind you she looks like a drowned rat...no quarter given, no surrender taken......I’m too old for this....
Enjoy these days Pete
I have not seen my grandkids for over a month now and I am missing them
Facetime and Skype are not the same as actual visits
Even though the youngest girl tells me I am really old and the man on the tv tells me to stay indoors all the time
FFS I am 59 and still maintaining vital equipment at work ( chocolate making machines )

Profit margins will dictate otherwise

Cheap Labour only gets you so far. Burberry making gowns shows that when you really need stuff, you can only rely on yourself. I’m not saying that everything will come flowing back to the U.K., but over reliance on Financial and other Services needs rebalancing with manufacturing and this may provide the stimulus to think again.....
