London isnt the UK. Despite what they think.
Looking from the UK, that isnt actually happening.

Looking from Spain at the UK I can't get my head around it. Here the parks have been closed for a month, as have the beaches, yet in UK the parks and beaches are left open and people basically left to decide for themselves what's acceptable. This obviously leads to people just chilling in the park or just walking around without a care in the world. London is surely going to get this really bad.
The poster was referring to London

To be fair roydo all the pics I have seen from London show that a lot of people are not strictly obeying the rules
I seen a pic of one group ( a family I assume ) playing cricket in a local park

I've seen a few things suggesting London might have already peaked, and any growth in the UK is now coming from elsewhere. It seems thus far as though the London hospitals have managed to cope with the demands placed upon them, which is positive. I'm not sure, for instance, how many of the 5,000 beds at the Nightingale in the Excel are occupied?

Meanwhile, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) has been deemed an "essential business" in Florida, the mayor of Orange County said yesterday, allowing the company to resume live tapings of its shows in the state during the coronavirus outbreak.

It’s a pandemic. Everyone on the planet wants more of the ppe kit. If we already had it stored up, the same people would now be complaining that it’s old/out of date etc etc. The real failing in this is relying on China to provide it in the first place. The lessons learnt from all of this will be to pull back/create certain manufacturing within the U.K., because when the chips are down you need capability.....
Profit margins will dictate otherwise

Can businesses last another 3 weeks lockdown? I know saving lives is more important. Couldnt they lift light restrictions but strick lockdown remains for the vulnerable and elderly.

Sadly, there's the misconception: it's not just the vulnerable and elderly. Businesses are suffering, which is terrible, but right now the priority is the health service.

While the elderly and those with underlying issues are at a greater risk, everyone is susceptible and the NHS simply couldn't manage a spike in numbers.

We haven't reached the peak of the virus yet, so until that happens we will not see any lifting of restrictions (even light). In fact, it'll be a week or two after that.

Not many apparently.

I think there may be some truth to the idea that restrictions could be lifted with the knowledge that we will have this additional bed capacity in case of a sudden surge in cases.

Surely we need to maintain the lockdown to stop the spread and save lives.

You seem to suggest that it’s only having enough beds for people to die in that counts, no?

Discussed this with the wife yesterday. It wouldn't surprise me if Trusts are hoping that the frontline staff have been sufficient to both keep on top of this initial wave, whilst also hopefully developing some immunity to the virus, with the auxiliary staff then brought in when demands are lower in order to give the frontline staff a break (and to get the 'reserves' up to speed), and then the service will be in a decent place for any second wave that comes. Given that there's no real cure for the virus, the efforts to date give the impression that they have been primarily geared around managing the demand for the NHS.

I don’t usually watch GMTV but I just caught today’s edition with Piers Morgan ripping a government minister apart on live tv.

Usual attacks... slow response to pandemic announcement and lack of PPE killing frontline NHS & Care workers.

A public enquiry is required but I guess the government will do its best to sweep it all under the carpet and just focus on how great it is that BoJo survived Covid-19.

There are significant risks involved in locking down for the next 10 months or so though. The impact of poverty is well documented, and this pandemic is likely to result in a recession on a scale scarcely seen before. We're also seeing a reduction in visits to hospital, which might be due to our reduced activity, but there are also reports that people with bona fide illnesses are choosing to stay away for fear of getting the virus whilst they're there.

The man hacked a dead child's phone. He's a fine one to talk about any morals.
