It's about 10 years of underfunding. That has certainly not changed since the election. That was written in December in the run up to the electionDoes it say in there somewhere that the NHS should be preparing for a global pandemic with the utmost urgency or something?

Aye, like I said mate, I haven't seen the guidance from PHE so don't really have any insight at all, and given the circumstances, it would seem infinitely preferable if there was sufficient slack in supplies to allow for 90% adherence to the guidelines (as an example). Would always seem better to have too much than too little.
What do you do if I may be so bold?Serious point now. I speak as a frontline NHS staff member.
You contributed to his recovery lol
From tomorrow in Bulgaria it will be compulsory to wear a mask out of doors. Parks have also been closed down there for over a week. Now are these steps necessary or an overreaction? If they are sensible measures why havent they been imposed here?
Theres just no coherent global plan in all of this. Just rules made up and imposed randomly to fit a particular political party's needs of the day.
The EU are doing much worse after talks the other night their chief medical officer resigned - Italy are not happy with the lack of help of them too?
I do agree we were slow off the mark, and if you compare our PPE to Spain's on the front line it's chalk and cheese......
From the Daily Mail like:
UK will have to live with some restrictions until coronavirus vaccine is developed, say officials, as new survey reveals that nine out of 10 Britons are observing 'stay home' advice.
Normal life will stay on hold until a virus vaccine becomes available in about 18 months, officials said last night.
Advice to work from home and stay in for seven days if you have symptoms will probably still be in place next year.
Ministers want to lift the most restrictive parts of the lockdown, including school and shop closures, within weeks.
But senior Government sources say the only true 'exit strategy' is a vaccine or a cure. Until then, the UK will have to adjust to a 'new normal'.
An official last night told The Telegraph that social distancing measures that have been placed upon Britons could be 'indefinite'.
Official plans to encourage social distancing on a long term, voluntary basis, have also been discussed, as the government continues to hold talks on how long Britons can cope with the current measures. Some measures, such as remote working, could be left in place for longer.
Dominic Raab, standing in for the Prime Minister while he is sick, has said it is 'too early' to lift the full lockdown, which will be formally extended next Thursday for several weeks.
Scientists expect the restrictions to be phased out gradually. They say some will stay in place until there is a vaccine - which they expect to take 18 months - to prevent infection levels soaring again.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock last night admitted the economic impact of the lockdown will cause deaths.
Never really understood the outrage of the food stockpiling, we've had 10 years of personal responsibility mantra and first sign of this mindset really being tested by the masses and not just the 1% or 2% everyone throws a head wobble, it's comical. Teach a dog to bite don't be surprised it bites! They aren't sensible measures, or at least wouldn't be here. All you'd end up doing is making it even more difficult for the NHS to get hold of masks.
If you look back th main Butchers were Cameron, Osborne. and Clegg, and Vince Cable-our NHS stood still - NHS ring fenced social care butchered etc where are they now ? Camron Boris my best mate = they despise one another... 9 jobs Gideon Osborne I'm alright Jack.....Clegg working on Facebook - even when Labour get in next they will not be able to undo this mess overnight...... as @Bruce Wayne stated the evaluation of this pandemic should be sorted once we beat it - that's a long way down the line imo sadly.........politically it goes back to the era of austerity imo - any new government would be struggling to cope with those ideology ways of CUTS, and the people who have flew the nest.....This government ihas been appalling in terms of its overall strategy and going after the virus. It's shocking and unforgivable murder on an industrial scale.
This government are butchers.
It looks like the UK was always going down the herd immunity route, probably because it was the cheapest option.
We are now paying the ultimate price for Conservative mismanagement of the NHS, this article written by an NHS doctor.
