We sailed into Djbouti once.
You get info for all ports when you get there.
The info was not to shag the brasses as like, they all had AIDS.. and not to get into fights with French Foreign legion who policed the place.

It ended up utter carnage, and I can firmly say those French lids are not to be messed about with.

You have had an interesting and varied working life!

So seeing as you’re claiming that you know what they were doing during that period, what tangibly did they achieve in terms of preparation for what was obviously on its way? As we had the benefit of watching exactly how it planned out in other nations. Go on then.......

I have not claimed anywhere that I knew what they were doing during that period.....

Whilst I agree with the bits about expanding healthcare capacity, I still don’t think herd immunity without a vaccine is a solution. In a country as unhealthy as the US (or in places like Connecticut where 30% of the population is over 60) it will cause just far too many deaths and likely long term health effects as even many of the recovered currently show reduced lung capacity which could be permanent.

Keeping outbreaks down to bare minimum through testing/contact tracing until we have at least a better treatment for the severely ill is the only path I see.

Oh I agree in the main. I still don't see another solution until a vaccine being found other than people having a general immunity, but that doesn't mean I want them to let it sweep through the population either.

So your solution is definitely the optimal one. I just think for it to work (once these initial lockdown periods end, whenever that is) there's going to have to be a bit of the population immunity thing as well. Kind of a merge of the two.

Pete you yourself were warning about the impact on supply chains in early Feb so at the very least you would have expected the governments planning departments to have been as up to date as you on what it might mean for healthcare supplies.

I know but this constant moaning and trying to put our governments down as though they said “hey there’s a big pandemic coming, let’s just ignore it for 8 or 9 weeks then put a plan in place to murder thousands of our own people” just doesn’t ring true somehow....now don’t get me wrong, I think quite a few people were not on the ball with this at Cabinet level, Politicians and CS, at the PHE, NHS and Treasury. But notwithstanding individual errors, and there have been, to say that governments were siting on their hands truly is out of place.....

"isn't a good look"? You do know NHS staff are having to make their own PPE, right?

It happens, life is not perfect unfortunately....soldiers were sent to Iraq and Afghanistan by a Labour government in soft sided vehicles which were being blown up with ied’s....it happens......haven’t heard anyone calling out these murderous policies...

I agree....they are just incompetent.
