Considering that the first reported death in China didn’t take place until Jan 11th, and that the first recorded case outside of China wasn’t until Jan 20th and that the WHO didn’t declare ‘a public health emergency of international concern’ until Jan 30th, the first death outside of China on Feb 2nd and the first death in Europe on Feb 14th and the first outbreak in Italy on Feb 23rd, you must have marvellous foresight or 20:20 hindsight. Being clever after the event can be done by all.....

.... apart from you. Governments have to see things coming and get ready - thats why they have contingency planners, run exercises, keep an eye on what they can and cannot do, have emergency services and armed forces etc.

We know ours saw this one coming because of the news reporting and the fact that PHE was giving advice (remarkably twee advice, but still) to people about Coronavirus from January 22nd onwards. We know our Government knew there would be problems with capacity, NHS sickness and supply if we had an outbreak because previous exercises had told them that would be the case.

Once it became clear what was happening in Wuhan - and for all the Chinese Government probably lied about the numbers, the hospitals and deaths were clear enough - they should have started to get ready.

Of course these things will come about, but countries sign up to immediately inform others of outbreaks, which I don’t believe has happened here, hence my criticism. Preparing for a pandemic has been back burner stuff for a long time, I suppose if nothing else there can be no excuses for the future.....
SKorea was extremly transparent and their cases started spiking early Feb, by late Feb it was over 500 a day - all,of which they documented in extensive detail.

Without a doubt Systems theory is useful in understanding what is going on as indeed is Chaos theory. The Nation was undoubtedly divided and even now that we have a common enemy, those previous divisions are showing themselves as you can see from many of the posts. For me it is a strange concept that a virus generated in China, with a Chinese government hiding its outbreak and lying about the numbers, gets off scot free by those from the left, yet a U.K. PM, himself suffering from the virus, is vilified and called a mass murderer for no other reason than he’s from the wrong party...
It's not an enemy; we aren't in a war; the PM has got the virus because he flippantly decided that he could ignore it while attending face to face meetings and shaking hands with NHS patients and his government had months to prepare for the impacts of Coronavirus but by and large did nothing but tell people to wash their hands and carry on as normal.

It's a bit more nuanced Corbyn Abbot versus the rest, hence my use of ideology. Rishi Sunak, the practising banker at the time of the financial crash, the gambler now has the credit card...

Idiotic statement. So to be clear you think it's a bad thing that the chancellor has experience of the finance sector before taking the job?

See I think that's a good thing.

Not so sure really.

Like not painting them in any great light, but there were certainly some plans in storage. That Nightingale hospital for example. Not a chance that was delivered in a few days with military help with zero planning from somewhere.

Just looking at the number of wards/beds. 4000 rustled up or made in a week? No chance.

Haters gotta hate.....

On a more hilarious note...did anyone hear anyone clapping 'for de brave kiddies who are staying at home cos dey are heroes' today?
