Not so sure really.

Like not painting them in any great light, but there were certainly some plans in storage. That Nightingale hospital for example. Not a chance that was delivered in a few days with military help with zero planning from somewhere.

Just looking at the number of wards/beds. 4000 rustled up or made in a week? No chance.

Of course there are plans in storage for that - there are even people and equipment in the military whose job it is to do it (build big emergency facilities, camps etc).

The point is roydo is contrast that success with the rest, and you can see how one was planned for properly and the other lot wasn't.

they'd been doing updates since January 22nd, pete (and possibly earlier, the 22nd was just the oldest one I could find at PHE)

the point is that they don't appear to have been doing much else to prepare for this (though the individual services had been)

It still didn’t allow for ‘two months sitting on hands’ as claimed by some on here....let’s at least be fair with our governments....

I think it perfectly fair to criticize our governments for their underwhelming ability to prepare for a coronavirus pandemic in general which most health experts have warned about for years.

And those plans should have been ramped up in late January when China locked down a huge region in Wuhan or at the latest mid Feb when S Korea and Diamond Princess were well known.

The government was not ‘sitting on its hands for two months’ and still trying to justify it Isn’t a good look. With hindsight no doubt every government might have moved quicker, but they didn’t......
