Its not a worst-case scenario, its a future reality.

They're working off mathematical projections and even the experts won't know the exact effectiveness of the lockdown until they start to see the change in the number of infections.

It may well become a reality. You were talking about 'now' though. Currently it's not out of control.

If its not out of control and the NHS arent swamped, why are we building 5 new hospitals just to treat this virus?

NHS is currently not swamped at a national level though. Many and I would probably say most hospitals have capacity still. In fact theres many reports where staff have nothing to do all day (I know this for certain). Will this change. Absolutely. Footfall in hospitals is well down and wards have been emptied in preparation.

Good to hear.

I still have no idea why we aren’t getting to testing levels in some other countries.

Not only would it help in managing the outbreaks but would be a lot less stressful for everyone.

They can't produce enough tests to keep up with the demand worldwide atm.

And we go back to my point regarding 700 deaths.

We shall have to agree to disagree, going round in circles adds nothing to the thread.

I don't think the lockdown will be perfect but I do think it will keep the number of people that need hospital treatment managable.

The government will have a better idea when to time calling lockdowns after they see how much effect the initial one has.

Italy and Spain daily deaths are starting to come down. Lockdowns do work, it just depends how well the lockdowns are followed and enforced and wether they are timed well.

Yeh no denying this.

Think the main argument has to be are the lockdowns the only way. The answer may well prove to be yes. But since we weren't prepared well enough then we'll not find out for sure. Sweden will be interesting.

I was looking at the Czech situation earlier, and of the people they had tested, around 10% were positive. This is despite only testing people with symptoms. Not sure I understand that.

probably a consequence of politicians elsewhere getting criticised for not doing enough tests, I'd imagine
