Doubt it mate places like Italy and Spain are still ravaged by new cases and deaths on a daily basis.

China have also fiddled the books to pretend hundreds of thousands more didnt die whilst barricaded into their own homes during their 2 month or so lockdown.

Spain and Italy both on the decline in terms of new cases though mate which is the important thing.

Pretty sure the government's are ignoring China's figures now but given where we're all at with this spread lockdown is the only suitable measure (unless, like Sweden or South Korea, they've taken a different approach from the start).

WHO's role in this can't be understated too. Absolute clowns at the top and in China's pocket. Sure it's been seen as it was a fair few days ago but this is disgusting: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-52088167

Well that’s doesnt mean it’s out control. We are in lockdown to stop it getting out control I thought. Things may change of course but it’s a bit sensationalist to suggest it’s now nationally out of control.

where did I say it was nationally out of control?

we are losing 600-700 people a day to this; by next week it could easily be 1000 a day. this is not under control.

Well what did you mean then saying it’s out of control? That’s what I asked. I think you might have used the wrong words.

We’ve pretty much got ourselves into a routine as a family, which other than my teenage lad being “ bored out of his skull “ seems to be sustainable and working well.

It’s just about adapting, which in the grand scheme of things isn’t really that hard to do.

Some people will always whinge no matter what.
Have actually wrote out a routine for myself so I don't end up gaming or watching netflix all day, I've found it a good aid and I'm a lot more productive with the time

I still think once we get the level of infections down to a more manageable level that expanded testing and contact tracing is a feasible approach, especially if we have expanded healthcare facilities, access to PPE for everyone and some better treatment options for those severely ill.

State-by-State Reopening in Phase II. Individual states can move to Phase II when they are able to safely diagnose, treat, and isolate COVID-19 cases and their contacts. During this phase, schools and businesses can reopen, and much of normal life can begin to resume in a phased approach. However, some physical distancing measures and limitations on gatherings will still need to be in place to prevent transmission from accelerating again. For older adults (those over age 60), those with underlying health conditions, and other populations at heightened risk from COVID-19, continuing to limit time in the community will be important.

Public hygiene will be sharply improved, and deep cleanings on shared spaces should become more routine. Shared surfaces will be more frequently sanitized, among other measures. In addition to case-based interventions that more actively identify and isolate people with the disease and their contacts, the public will initially be asked to limit gatherings, and people will initially be asked to wear fabric nonmedical face masks while in the community to reduce their risk of asymptomatic spread. Those who are sick will be asked to stay home and seek testing for COVID-19. Testing should become more widespread and routine as point-of-care diagnostics are fully deployed in doctors’ offices. While we focus on state-by-state reopening of activities in a responsible manner and based on surveillance data, we note that states may move forward at a county or regional level if these conditions vary within the state and that coordination on reopening among states that share metropolitan regions will be necessary.

Establish Immune Protection and Lift Physical Distancing During Phase III. Physical distancing restrictions and other Phase II measures can be lifted when safe and effective tools for mitigating the risk of COVID-19 are available, including broad surveillance, therapeutics that can rescue patients with significant disease or prevent serious illness in those most at risk, or a safe and effective vaccine.

Just wish we had put more measures in place (PPE, extra capacity, more ventilators) to put off the NHS being pushed to full capacity even more.

Feels like we're chasing tails when we could have had at least half a foot ahead of this thing.

I agree. It's a shame as that would have saved quite a lot of lives.

I just hope the deaths don't go to levels the NHS can't cope with before the lockdown effect kick in.

I get a worrying feeling Johnson left it a little late.

7 healthcare workers now confirmed dead by Gove.

The nurses yesterday were young and fit apparantly. Is it that they're totally run down already ?

Just awful.
Terribly sad they have had to sacrifice themselves, I would hope people remember in the future that these staff and their facilities are vital investments and not liabilities for governments to treat with disdain.

True heroes those staff RIP

By that definition any virus (common flu) you could catch is out of control.

Not really, because we don't get told to all stay at home during any virus outbreak.

There are hundreds of people dying a day here thanks to this, with thousands dying every day across Europe. Saying this outbreak is not under control isn't to criticise anyone involved in dealing with this, its an acknowledgement of reality.

I don't think the lockdown will be perfect but I do think it will keep the number of people that need hospital treatment managable.

The government will have a better idea when to time calling lockdowns after they see how much effect the initial one has.

Italy and Spain daily deaths are starting to come down. Lockdowns do work, it just depends how well the lockdowns are followed and enforced and wether they are timed well.

Who is saying its under control?

I mean it patently isnt, and we all know this lock down is designed to buy the NHS and some clever people some time.
