not sure what else can be said, to be honest - if 700 dead in a day, everyone told to stay home unless urgent and most businesses closed isn't already enough

I agree it's scary for everyone to be involved in this and on a personal level many of us feel 'out of control' over it.

To me, that doesn't mean the situation is out of control though.

Two different things, I think that's the main reason we're disagreeing. Using the same words to describe different things.

I define something that kills 700 people a day out of control.

So yeah, people define it differently for sure.

The government have a plan though and the NHS aren't swamped.

That's not out of control.

You can't control worldwide pandemics, you manage them.

Just because a pandemic is scary, doesn't meant it's out of control.

Not really - if people are told to stay indoors to avoid something, then by definition that thing is not being controlled. That the NHS hasn't yet collapsed doesn't mean it has control of this either.

If its not out of control and the NHS arent swamped, why are we building 5 new hospitals just to treat this virus?

It is being controlled though as staying indoors reduces the spread rate of the virus, which is controlling it and reducing infections.

I was looking at the Czech situation earlier, and of the people they had tested, around 10% were positive. This is despite only testing people with symptoms. Not sure I understand that.
