Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Well said, this and the post above actually made me question democracy for a few minutes. Are we really only one crisis away from enforced human experiments in some peoples eyes?

I wonder also if this period of isolation might encourage people to scrap their notion that prison is a cakewalk as well? We've had it for 10 days and people are losing their [Poor language removed] over it (and that's with exercise in parks etc. 'allowed'). Imagine it for several years.

Be interesting to see how long people will stay in their houses before they get bored/go crazy. We have been on lockdown for 3 weeks and a decision will be made today to see if it is extended to the end of april. I think it will be. Its Easter week here and a massive holiday for the spanish. I dont know how people in aprtments will cope. Interesting times for sure

Yeah, I really feel sorry for people in apartments. Going to be a tough month, especially if the weather stays nice as some people will be tempted to break the restrictions.

I think the majority will stick to it. I think people are starting to realise the seriousness of it as the death toll keeps rising and it's not just older\vulnerable people being affected by it.

the humane thing to do then would be, after the inquiry into Coronavirus, to exile Johnson and co to an island in the South Atlantic

Was reading a study from Johns Hopkins yesterday, which said the key is expectations. If people expect it'll be two weeks, and it ends up being four weeks, then you start to get a lot of disobedience from those who had originally played ball. In other words, when Trump said it'd all be done and dusted by Easter, it's quite probably going to be another in a line of mistakes made during this affair.

There's been alot of talk this morning about the BCG vaccine being effective against Covid 19, the map here kind of looks like it could be the case, the orange countries have mandatory BCG vaccine, the purple countries used to have mandatory BCG vaccine but no longer do and the red countries never had mandatory. The countries in purple and red are the worst effected, we say China's numbers are false but maybe things there weren't as bad as we all assume they should be when compared to Italy Spain USA. When China uses this vaccine and the others don't use it as much. I'm not saying that this vaccine is the answer but the map seems to certainly suggest a link. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bl...ths-seen-in-countries-that-mandate-tb-vaccine

The problem is you could just as easily argue that the countries mostly affected are in the top 10 of travelled to countries in the world. The UK, Germany, US, Spain, France and Italy all are.

China can do draconian lockdown's to limit the spread and countries close to China like Singapore and S Korea are doing way better because they took serious steps to prepare for any future pandemics after the SARS and MERS outbreaks, which is the main reason they've been able to test and clamp down on any cases really early, limiting spread.

Not dismissing your theory but the countries affected the most are to most accounts what you'd expect.

Send the whole cabinet there. We could call it Gove Island, and get Ant & Dec to do voice overs whilst people are mean about them on social media. Perhaps hold back on the use of swimwear for all our sakes however.

They can go out in yards and gardens, they can go to the bigger parks/beaches for walks with the dog etc. every day.

It’s been 2 weeks. Literally 2 weeks... people talk like we’ve been on lockdown since the 90’s.
This exactly this people going on about this trade off between the children an the old. A lot of the old look after the children pick them up from school when there parents are in work an what not. Am sure a death to a grandparent from covid19 is going to effect them more than not going out.

The point of the lockdown is basically to stop the NHS been overloaded an collapsing. It’s not just effecting the old an the sick. The death rate might not be as high for younger people but they are still dying an they are still ending up in the ICU’s on ventilators in the hospital.

I think in the end we will need heard immunity or a vaccine but if people get infected slowly the hospital can deal with it better if they let us all back out to soon hospitals won’t cope an we will be in a much dire situation in my opinion.

I keep my expectations low. Serves me well. Especially as an Evertonian

This is the kind of thing I was talking about, the cure being worse than the disease.. if you are stopping cancer patients form getting their treatment then the cure is worse than the disease,

Know a guy that lives in the Lakes and he was complaining yesterday that he's been housebound for two weeks or so. He clearly forgot that his Strava feed is open so the lengthy bike rides and stuff he goes on can be clearly seen. He went for a 5 hour run yesterday ffs!

Theres nothing wrong with getting out exercising. Especially if he isn't around anybody else whilst he does it. I've just been for 3 hours of cycling, myself. Lots of people out on the road. All solo. Everybody keeping distances.

The moaning about a problem he doesnt have, on the other hand...

When bad people are locked up, they can do no harm to good people......
