sorry I’m probably not being clear I’m not suggesting that . My suggestion or speculative thoughts , from pre lockdown , has been what everyone else has seemed to seek to do . Isolation and lockdown , then large scale testing . Trace back the virus to source and further larger isolation seeking to remove those who are infected with stronger isolation .

the phrase repeatedly used was you can’t fight a fire if you don’t know where it is . We simply aren’t doing that . We’re sending people home from the hospital untested who we’re telling we think have the virus as we only test those in icu .

We weren't prepared as a country for this pandemic and were also too slow to respond to the initial outbreak, putting us last in line for ordering testing kits.

We can't really do much about that now. Even if they wanted to run loads of tests, if they can't aquire the test kits then we're just crying over spilt milk.

The government's going for herd immunity, whilst trying to test for potential treatments and working on a vaccine. It's their only real option due to lack of preparation.

I do think playing it as 'the young v the old' is slightly misleading mind. Anyone can have this virus and anyone can get it badly enough to end up in hospital. Depends on a lot of factors and obviously if you have a weakened immune system then you're more likely to be hit bad by it if you get it (though no guarantee of that obviously and no guarantee you won't get a bad hit even if you're in perfect condition).

I do think the measures we have atm, because of a lack of action in the previous months, is the only thing we can do right now and it's also the best course of action.

The gov's aim will be to get through this as quickly and as safely as possible as in the long run that will save more lives. April will be a total lockdown I'm sure, but if we can at least see some light in 9-10 days' time in terms of a flattening of confirmed cases and hopefully the start of a decline in deaths, then by mid-May we may see a gradual easing of measures.
If Lockdown is to continue then the longer it goes on for the worse it will be economy wise for a very long time, and people will die because if that in Ireland the suicide rate rose by 57% during the 2008 recession that needs to be something that has to be taken into consideration too that's people's lives too.
Realistically there are 2 ways out of it as far as I can see.
1. Any money spent by governments on this is seen as loans that can be ignored by this generation and written off by the next.
2. Any money spent by governments is to be paid back over such a long period of time that it dramatically reduces pressures on countries.

I’m not necessarily going to agree with the last sentence but I’m with you until then .

Lockdown started on the 23rd March. From the incubation period most people have 2 weeks to either fight off the virus or die. Due to the 2 week delay between catching the virus and it having it's effect I'd expect the deaths to peak in the next few days. Most places are reporting about 10 days to get the infections under control from a successful lockdown.

Hopefully, if the lockdown has gone to plan I'm hoping they might be able to lift restrictions by around the 20th. Just my own guess though. Probably wrong.

The problem with lifting restrictions is that as soon as you do so the infections will shoot up again, the NHS is still relatively full at this stage of the year.

I’d like to see the current restrictions imposed for a few weeks more, with a loosening of measures to follow.

As an example, allowing small businesses to open but only if they ensure a limit on the number of people on their premises.

Large scale gatherings such as football crowds should be out of the question until year end for me.

said from the start I can’t see football this year or if it happens it’ll be late on . Then again It’s only a couple of weeks ago the same scientists running the show know were telling us Cheltenham wasn’t a risk so who knows .

You survive in the present not the future so 80% is really helpful right now for a lot of people.
I totally agree hence why I said it's the appropriate measures for now, but my point (and I suspect the original point of the Dr) was that at some point it may not be.

Hence why the situation needs to be constantly monitored and assessed because at some point that balance may swing the other way, where it isn't suitable.

It's all well and good for the majority of the population to live and think in the here and now, but unfortunately those in power need to consider now and the future.

There's been alot of talk this morning about the BCG vaccine being effective against Covid 19, the map here kind of looks like it could be the case, the orange countries have mandatory BCG vaccine, the purple countries used to have mandatory BCG vaccine but no longer do and the red countries never had mandatory. The countries in purple and red are the worst effected, we say China's numbers are false but maybe things there weren't as bad as we all assume they should be when compared to Italy Spain USA. When China uses this vaccine and the others don't use it as much. I'm not saying that this vaccine is the answer but the map seems to certainly suggest a link. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bl...ths-seen-in-countries-that-mandate-tb-vaccine

I think kids handle it better than the adults tbh.

The kids are just happy on their tablets etc, all the parents filing for divorces and having mental breakdowns.
Happy for

No mate - China's numbers are many multiples worse than they admit. To go off any other principle is a bit bonkers at this stage

about lifting restrictions

Would not worry about restrictions leisure home owners have been arriving in their droves to their 2nd 3rd homes...

Be interesting to see how long people will stay in their houses before they get bored/go crazy. We have been on lockdown for 3 weeks and a decision will be made today to see if it is extended to the end of april. I think it will be. Its Easter week here and a massive holiday for the spanish. I dont know how people in aprtments will cope. Interesting times for sure
