This is getting totally ridiculous now. Its not really any worse than flu. TBH i think i've already had it.

Bigger questions need to be asked too, how was it released in to the general population? The Wuhan lab that dealt with it, owned by the French.

Tinhat time that I've read elsewhere..

Its a precursor to them releasing a truly deadly virus that kills half the planets population. This is a test run to see how it spreads around the world.. They tried with SARS and Ebola but they fizzled out..

Weddings and funerals have been suspended, as well as religious and cultural events. Cinemas, night clubs, gyms, swimming pools, museums and ski resorts have been closed.

Restaurants and cafes can open between 06:00 and 18:00 but customers must sit at least 1m (3ft) apart.

What it’s telling us is that Italians are grossly stupid. Ban public congregations but nah still fine to go eat. I love the night curfew like it’s when the virus flies overhead looking for prey.

Their approach is perfectly logical to me.

You limit large gatherings as much as possible while still allowing businesses to trade to some degree for the sake of the economy. If all cafes and restaurants had to close completely it would be a disaster.

A complete closure of small businesses would be an economic disaster for Italy. When you consider their delicate finances, it could push them over the precipice.

The 'test clinic' at the wife's place will apparently go live tomorrow. It's a 'drive through' clinic, where people will be communicated via cardboard signs through their windscreen and tested. The 'road' is very narrow, so it'll be one at a time, so presumably it will be appointment based rather than turn up and wait. The testers will be in full garb. Oh, and the test place is next to a secondary school, so you can probably expect photos/videos posted on social media by the end of tomorrow, coupled with stories of parents refusing to allow their kids to go to school (not to mention mothers with babies who would ordinarily go to the actual clinic, outside of which is this drive through testing setup). There are even grumblings from staff that they don't want to be anywhere near it, as it was kinda dropped on them on Friday. What can go wrong? o_O
The drive through seems to be the standard model as you can see more people, it's appointment based, it helps limit contact and most people would in the early stages be able to drive.

TBF it’s probably more likely that if they ordered a complete closure of cafes and restaurants then they’d have to pay up compensation. If they allow them to stay open to serve the streets they’ve emptied then they don’t.

Indeed, staff either get paid or they don’t...money stops moving...the economy collapses.....

Italy is acutely vulnerable to something like this - pretty poor healthcare, high median age, customs and etiquette that increase the spread of a virus, disorganised in pretty much every respect...

Lovely country though.

If China (or any other developed country) wanted to release a virus that would spread around the world and kill half the planets population, they wouldn't need a 'test run'.

The virulence of this virus is currently estimated to be between 1.4-6.5 with a median estimate of 3.8%. To put this into perspective, the seasonal flu has a virulence of around 1.3%. In simple terms, this means that it spreads significantly faster than any known seasonal flu.

As for the death-rate, the CFR currently stands at around 3.8% (after excluding the Chinese reported CFR that many, including myself, see as being cooked). This is multiple times greater than the CFR of any seasonal flu (which is around .1%)

In addition to this, around 10% of cases require hospitalisation, which is more than 10 times the number of the seasonal flu.

There's no need to panic, but pretending that this is just another seasonal flu is an issue.

Wash your hands, don't touch your face, and limit person-to-person contact.
In reality we don't actually know what the fatality rate is, and likely never will but it's not going to be anywhere near 3.8% it will be much lower, if you use confirmed cases as 100% then the 3.8% may well be correct. The thing is though medical experts are telling us that most people get very mild symptoms and in some cases there may be no symptoms at all, and those with little or no symptoms won't even bother getting tested I have a cough at the moment but no other symptoms do I have it? So the confirmed cases might only be a fraction of all cases. Which is why in my opinion we are going to end up with highball figures.

“in my opinion” lol

“in my opinion” lol
You find that funny.. which must stand to reason that your opinion is that everyone who catches this is being accounted for and there are no people with it that are not going to be confirmed there are no asymptomatic cases that won't count as confirmed cases.. LOL
