This bit isn't likely - for counting inside hospitals you'd need that data, but not for returns to central Government. All they'd appear to need for these daily stats is the number of deaths over the relevant period, how many of them had underlying conditions and the ages, which the hospitals could send in easily.

None of that would need consent (and isn't for any other circumstance) but if you wanted to be far more concerned with confidentiality than they are for anything else, you could remove the ages from the published data and it would be completely anonymous.

You've missed the point about double counting deaths mate ( or, to be fair, I didn't explain it well )

At some point, these numbers need reconciling between what comes out of the hospitals and what's on the register of deaths. To be able to reconcile those numbers, you need to know that deceased <a> from one source ( the hospital ) is the same as deceased <b> from the register.

I'm not saying I'm 100% certain that's the situation here, but, from past experience, I think it's plausible, and I certainly think it's more plausible than some weird conspiracy theory.

End of the day, if you're an intelligent, compassionate person ( which, from your posting history, I'd say you are ), you wouldn't be getting your boxers in a twist over the numbers of deaths having some degree of lag associated with them. You'd have to be an paranoid effwit of the highest order to care about such a thing. Sadly, there are people on here, and elsewhere, who fit said description of effwits ( all be it, doubtless well meaning with their effwittery ).

I know this is going to sound cold and horrible, but somebody is going to have to weigh the importance of economy against the importance of trying to stop this disease spreading and killing people,
It's predicted now that Ireland will enter a depression with hundreds of thousands of job losses that may last decades, which in turn will lead to a massive increase in suicide as people find themselves in horrific financial situations. I would think the death toll from this virus will be miniscule in comparison to the amount of death from suicide and other financial issues such as not being able to afford health care.

We need to consider killing people cause of money or else people will kill themselves over money.

I think we need to do something about this money structure thing or system.

I have a lot of friends in Madagascar, and that country's infrastructure simply will collapse under this virus...they are under lockdown, there is poor health care (or none), and the broad sections of the country rely on tourism to sustain themselves. It is quite sad.

Japan closed schools early but hasn’t go into full lockdown for the rest of the economy and, at least so far, seems to be managing its outbreak despite high population density.

I wonder if that is the thinking behind this

But the Government are Tories, so whilst I take your point it's a bit unspecific, it's understandable why people would use the term.
