Rumor Alert from TPF

The Manager requested that the contracts of several players were sorted out this season to ensure none were left too short

Hence Jags, Ossie etc singing new deals

Mr Baines was one of the players who Mr Moyes wanted signed up to a new deal as priority

As of yet the Everton Hierarchy have failed to deliver this.
Come summer Mr Baines will only have 2 years left, and Mr Moyes is not happy ss this means Mr Baines could end up leaving far cheaper than desired
Mr Moyes has not aimed his displeasure at Mr Baines, but more so at those responsible for sorting the contracts as they have failed to be as proactive as he would like

Swansea improved year on year in the lower leagues, but they've reached their limit now. They will not get higher than 8th without spending a fair bit of money on transfers.

This whole argument is getting a bit convoluted. Main point is that net spend is clearly an important financial restraint. It doesn't matter how much you pay your current players if you can't buy new ones without selling first.

To be fair, i said that at the end of last season ha

Actually it does.

so wenger has won 3 league titles (one achieved doing something that may never be matched again), 4 FA Cups, reached a champions league final, reached europe's elite competition in god knows how many consecutive years. even last week he managed to get his fairly average arsenal team to win 2-0 away at one of the best teams in the world.

but because he bought gervinho and arshavin, he's a bad manager?

what about his signings of fabregas, nasri, henry and the ilk?

What are you even talking about :/

Arsenal have spent 952 million on their first team between 2002 and 2012. Tottenham have spent 661 million during that time.

Arsenal have a net profit of 23 million in the transfer window during that time period while Spurs have a net spend of 100 million but that doesn't change the fact that arsenal have invested more money than spurs. It's their choice to spend it on wages and not fees but they still spent it, in fact they spent more.

Net spend doesn't tell you much at all about the real picture.

Well the bigger picture shows me that Spurs are now finishing higher than Arsenal.

So maybe Net spend means more than Wages?

It clearly does though.

Arsenal's wage bill has remained consistently high since they came to the Emirates, it is their net spend which has dropped. And guess what ? No trophies for 8 years.

The wage bill at Everton has increased regularly since Moyes took over, but his net spend has remained low and guess what ? Can't push into the top 5 money bags clubs.

Wigan have barely spent any money in about four years, and guess what ? Relegation candidates constantly.

Nobody is saying net spend is the be all and end all for understanding the financial situation of football clubs (neither are wages) but it is clearly a solid indicator.
