Wenger spends more on wages than most of the league combined. Net spend is a red herring, wages is the real way of judging their financial might.

Surely that just makes it even worse ?

I wouldn't say net spend is a red herring either. If you don't spend money on players for two years it doesn't matter what wages you pay your current players.

What's he won mate?

Stubbs speaks candidly on Moyes contract position

"It’s irrelevant where Everton finish in terms of whether David Moyes stays. The manager would love to finish in fourth place because that would get them into the Champions League.

"But the decision is more off the pitch rather than on the pitch. It will be about his budget. He’ll want assurances about what players get sold and the amount of money that he’ll get to spend from those transfers.

"He wants to see the direction that the club is taking before he commits his future to it. It’s a crossroads for the board as well, not just the manager."

Time for Messrs. Kenwright & Co. to 5h!t or get off the pot.

One, no net spend doesn't mean no new players coming in, merely that you're spending the same as you're recieving.

How much did van persie, fabregas, cole and nasri cost them?

Barely anything in fees because they came to the club young. But still lots in wages because top players either get top wages or they leave. Ultimately if you're spending 90 million a year on wages and none on fees and another team is spending 40 million on wages and ten on fees you don't get to plead poverty because it's your choice to spend that money where you choose to spend it.

Wages are the majority of the expenditure of the club and the best marker of how the market judges your players and so how good you 'should' be. It's the key statistic in these conversations.

Do we win anything for winning at these grounds?

You act like hes lost all those games.

I bet hes drawn more than hes lost, run along and check the stats.

Thats if you can even spell Everton.

yeah 3 points and a massive morale boost.

can someone provide the stat, i'm not too sure we've drawn more. do you seriously think moyes is a better manager than wenger goat?

When was the last time a club with an extremely low net spend continually improved year on year.

Net spend isn't a 'red herring', it shows that a manager is operating under financial contraints.

Man U post Ronaldo? Very low net spend with that 80 million fee taking into account. Still winning stuff.

Swansea? Allardyce's Bolton? Us? Lyon?

I said continually improved year on year, not win one trophy.

And despite selling Ronaldo for £80m, they've still spent £8m a season net in the three since.

Net Spend is a clear financial restraint on our club.
