how do you/we know phil neville would be a bad manager?

instinct haha. i'm not saying he'll be a bad manager, i just don't want us to be the club where he starts his trade - i'd like to hope we could get a good manager in the summer if moyes leaves, seeing as this will be a major instance in our near future.

Its a mixture.

I mean look at the RS.

High net spend, High wages, Utter tosh Managers = Crap League placings.

Exactly.

The only fair way to judge managers vs finances is to combine net spend and wages.

Moyes everton are the 14th biggest spenders in england in his time here and have finished an average of 7th. That's what Moyes achievement is. He's 7 positions better than the average top flight manager so we finish 7 positions higher than our finances dictate.

This is true, QPR and City under Mark Hughes are testiment to that. Mind you it helps, City would probably of been where QPR are if Hughes hadn't spent as much as he did.

Net spend is a funny argument because when Moyes has had money he's not spent it terribly well.

He's a much better bargain basement shopper as Cahill, Arteta, Jagielka, Pienaar, Martyn, all attest to.

His past transfers suggest he's better at finding bargains, and that when he's spent money he's not done so well in many cases. So why then is it an absolute given that having a low net spend is a negative thing for Moyes?

I have a new equation which is better than yours.

High net spend + high wages + utter tosh managers + crap league placings = Karma

So we have finally discovered the equation for football immortality?
Football management from here on in should be a doddle.

Wrong. Our record signing is superb.

That's the exact point I'm making.

Net spend means nothing. Because look at newcastle they get gifted 35 million for carroll and so get to buy six players for 'no net spend'.

Our situation is absolutely nothing like United's. Our first choice right back from the Irish League who cost less than a week's worth of Fellaini's wages. If you are receiving large fees for good players, it means you have been buying good players. The only reason we have a net spend at all is because Moyes is boss at spotting a player. The fact our net spend is so low under Moyes speaks volumes about the conditions he's been under, as he's excellent at getting players to perform and then make a profit on them.

here's an interesting thought.

With moyes still undecided on his future, if kenwright said to him, i have to sell fellaini (presuming most will be used to reinherit in the squad), would this make moyes more inclined to sign a new contract knowing he will have a fairly big transfer fee in the summer or would it mean he definitely won't sign knowing he has to sell one of his best 3 players again?
