CONFIRMED: Moyes Leaving - All Reaction Here

So do I. I still can't get my head around it TBH. But we all saw it. Perhaps the players did just bottle it? I remember Moyes talking after the game and he said pretty much what you said. He was happy with how the game was going and without that mistake he thinks we'd have won.

That's why I think it was a part of the game plan.

I'm sure people think that every single second of football is dictated by the managers tactics. I've got no doubt whatsoever that Moyes was equally disapointed that we couldnt keep posession and started sitting too deep. We had nothing really on the bench of note, a manager cant do an awful lot when the action is underway in all honesty. It has to come from the players.

I think it was the game plan, and most of football is dictated by the manager’s tactics. Everton’s midfield is not very mobile, and the Wembley pitch seemed massive. The rs on the other hand had a fairly mobile midfield that day. Once Everton went a goal up, the mind set changed. The midfield didn’t want to give anything away, because they wanted to hang on to what they had, so they tried to remain goal side of the ball. This resulted in fewer options going forward, and Jelavic became isolated. Long balls seemed to be the main outlet but it wasn’t working. I think this is always the case with Moyes’ teams.

On Saturday was similar. Once Everton get that lead, the flow chart changes. Our midfield doesn’t push up, bar isolated incidents (Pienaar and Felli on Saturday) and as a result we struggle to maintain possession the same. Our defence then can’t get out and the result is we tend to sit back. Once Moyes took Pienaar off on Saturday, we struggled to maintain possession or offer much going forward. Oldham took advantage of our ‘deeper’ defence, pushed players up and pumped the ball in to the danger zone, which won them a few corners etc.

Jags’ comments are interesting, I wonder if there is a disharmony within the squad regarding the manager and his situation. He really does play the media game well and it comes across as him thinking he’s better than the club. I’m sure that won’t sit well with some of the experienced International players.

Moyes offers stability and a guaranteed top ten finish. I think alot of Evertonians want things freshened up but we could all regret wanting Moyes to move on if that stability goes.

3 Simple Questions for Moyes-outers or Not Arsed if Moyes leaves:

(1) He has been here for 11 years now. In that time which managers with comparable budgets have done as well / better than him?
(2) Does Moyes have what it takes to win trophies?
(3) Did Walter Smith? Does Arsene Wenger?

Moyes is very much like smith, and indeed most carbon based lifeforms, in that he could win trophies in scotland with one of the old firm.

But I keep reading that he lacks the "winning mentality"

Are you saying he IS capable of winning if he has a competitive budget?

We play good football when Leon Osman is in a nice mood. When he's off his game we have no idea what to do and crumble like a puff pastry.

Hes an unlucky Manager.

Thats not his fault, ok, you could say you "earn your own luck", but sometimes, you cant.

Hes a winner, he wants to win.

His haters will claim hes a loser and simply tries not to lose, they would.

1) In terms of Transfer budgets Wenger. But to counter this it's now unheard of for a manager to get 11yrs of total control at one club. It shouldn't be underestimated how important time and patience from a chairman is.

2) no IMO. He may get a run to a final like the ****e always seem to get and win us one but even at a top club he wouldn't win trophies consistently IMO. Sometimes you have to be brave with your tactics and your subs at key moments and I don't think he is.

3)Walter took an abysmal Rangers to the EL final, further than we ever got when we were one of the best sides in it. Wenger, though less than Moyes, isn't brave enough at key moments either IMO he's got the hint of a bottler about him.

The likes of Wenger and other managers won trophies at smaller clubs in the past. Laudrup will properly win one with Swansea now. Yes Wenger has failed in almost 8 years now.....But he has won 2 doubles and 4 FA cups. Moyes at 11 years in Everton should have won a cup by now

The thing is tho mate.

Moyes doesnt have money to spend, so is handicapped in a way.

Wenger has 3 Multi-Billionares to turn to for some cash and simply refuses to spend money EVER, unless hes getting in another youngster for his creche.

Arsenal's "demise" coincides with Chelsea blowing them out of the water financially.

Wenger has spent about 0.5 BILLION more than Moyes on wages in the last 8 years and they've both won nothing.

The Wenger comparison ignores the fact that his player budget is £80M more than Moyes every year - as that's the difference in the wage bills.
