Yeah if you ignore the £50m-70m extra Arsenal spend on wages their budgets are similar. An extra £52m a year in wages is enough to pay 10 new players £100k a week.

Like I said it's so difficult to compare anything because it's unheard of for a manager to get 11yrs. To be fair to Moyes it's also unheard of to get 50p to spend on players in that time. You asked for a comparison I gave the closest one I could find.

Do you acknowledge that it is easier to be "brave" if you have the options to be so? We went into a cup final with one half fit striker and a bench full of kids. Chelsea had £150k a week players to bring on.

No I don't. Did you see what Mourinho's inter did to Barca a few years ago? That was down to the manager making key decisions at the right time. It was planned, it didn't just happen. The key moments in big games are when trophies are won and lost. I don't blame Moyes for the Chelsea result. By rights we shouldn't expect to beat sides that cost 300million+. There are plenty of other games where he could have been bolder and got through. Sporting Lisbon being a prime example.

Yet he was utterly ****e when in charge of Everton and Moyes took his squad 10 places higher in the league with 12 months. So how do you explain that?

Walter was awful for us his last few years. Yet he's taken a worse side further in the same competition and beat more than 1 side we played along the way. You don't have to be a winner or have the killer instinct or whatever to get a decent league finish. You normally do to win a cup.

I don't rate Walter near Moyes BTW just playing devils advocate.

Wenger's bought some real junk in recent years, he's lost top quality & replaced it with second tier & worse. Not all of it comes down to budget either, he's made some bad calls.

Thanks mate, it's a sore point with some evertonians comparing Moyes early years to Wengers stellar performance the argument runs: Wenger had the basis of a side with Adams et al but as I remember they were for all money on their last legs and quite frankly in decline. The idea Moyes had Rooney as an equivalent "golden hello" cuts no ice - what say you?

lol, that's why they won the League & Cup double in his 2nd season with that backline being the basis of their success.

Its very hard to compare because Wenger had a great defense. Even though they were running on their last legs. I think Moyes is a very good manager and I would love to see him with much better funds to really see if he can take the last step. Its impossible to know how well he would do with better budget. People think im attacking Moyes, which im not. My point is Spurs overlooked him last summer and you have to wonder what made Levy think AVB was better choice to make his club successful. Then you have to wonder if chelsea or Man City became available, would they go for him? I think Remi Garde is nailed on for the arsenal job

I also agree that luck plays part, but then you could argue Wenger has been unlucky in some of the finals he's been in like the CL final or the final against Birminghm which we completely dominated and then had a freak mistake in the last minute

You should have been down to ten men after five minutes against brum, you were down to ten men after five mintues against barca.

That's not bad luck, that's your keepers and defence being got at.

Just to press the point a bit on that famous back line do you feel he revitalised them or were they fine anyway?

I think time has proven that Wenger isn't a very good defensive coach. I don't think he'd have won half as much without that back four in place and a great keeper.

he's not very good defensive coach, but he's a very good attacking coach. On the other hand the invisibles only conceded 26 goals and the back 5 was bought by Wenger
