CONFIRMED: Moyes Leaving - All Reaction Here

Interesting quote from Jagielka in the Echo today about Moyes' contract:

“Well, at the end of the day, if we do win the cup and he doesn’t sign, it will still be a fantastic feat for the players. We are a very close squad and we get on very well. As much as we go out there to do it for the manager, we do it for each other as well. Obviously, the fans, too. We had a good following today and the fans are brilliant, too. So there is more than one person there to play for. We don’t have to feel that we have to prove anything. The manager has pretty much brought every single player in, bar one or two, so we are his players. He has made decisions that he wants to make. He has come out in the press and said he will not sign anything until the end of the season, which is fine with us. Obviously, it will be nice to give him a quick reminder of how good we are by keeping this cup run going and pushing as high as we can up the Premier League.”

That sounds like there's a bit of a resentment there that Moyes has linked his decision on whether to stay or not to the performance of the players.

it sounds almost like players are prepping

Depends on what you mean by 'good football'. Seeing as it's one of the best leagues in Europe i'd say the standard of football is pretty high. Unless by 'absolute crap' people mean 'not Real Madrid'.

We clearly haven't played crap football for most of the season. We had created more chances on goal than pretty much every team in Europe up until October time, for example.

Even when we were drawing games because we couldn't kill them off, we still weren't playing badly.

No course we haven't. My point was basically below maybe 6th it's not necessarily the quality of your football that gets you up the table.

The list doesn't go on and on. Nobody is disputing that we played well early in the season. Since then we've been hit and miss.

Hit and miss is the best word for it. We've had patches of great stuff: second half against villa and swansea, first half Chelsea and Norwich, the entire game against Cheltenham but not consistently.

Remi Garde?! How do you feel about that?

I feel good about it tbh. He has done very well at Lyon. Gérard Houllier left a mess at Lyon with players on huge wages and the club was in financial crisis. He improved the team massively and at the same time got rid of alot of big players to bring down the wage bill. Lyon is coming back to being a top team because of him. He's a former player who is very close to Wenger. The board have already said Wenger will play big part on who the next manager is and he will recommend Garde. he was actually close to become our football director in 2007, but said he wanted to focus on coaching.

I don't see where you're getting the 'resentment' from in what Jagielka has said there. Seems like a pretty positive answer to a question which was likely 'How is Moyes' decision to not sign affecting the team'.

Well, I suppose it's about interpretation. Looking at the language used by Jagielka I'd be hard pressed not to conclude that he's making a pointed response to Moyes' statement which put the ball on his contract back into the players court. He's right too.

I think to be fair injuries have disrupted us. But, the players we had on the pitch could have done a lot, lot better at times.

Have to agree.

Well in Jags if so.

Sure, but you don't see many teams challenging for 4th after 20 games who haven't played good football. The last time would probably be when we did it.

True. For the first ten games or so we were playing the best football in the league IMO. Even more frustrating now because we've all seen what we're capable of.

I don't think the players will be that bothered in all honesty. The mass exodus that some predict never seems to happen unless the new fella want's his own men in or doesn't like the look of the players he inherits.

Think I agree in most.

Reading that just sounded to me like Jags and the rest of the players aren't really arsed what Moyes is doing.

I like that to be honest.
