Clear Out

No point getting rid of likes of Jags, Baines etc before we get rid of the deadwood that can't even get in the squad like Besic, McCarthy, Lennon (I know he's played last 2 but still).

Have far too big a squad. Is Holgate realistically ever going to be good enough..?

This is is why sacking Koemann was just the beginning, we need to make a lot more changes. We just have a lot of average players Jags, Baines, Williams, Mirallas, Lennon, Gueye, Klassen and Robles who are just not good enough for a team wanting to finish in the top half of the table. We just had a disastrous summer transfer window that caused this mess. The reality is you need creative wingers and you need somebody to be able to put crosses away we have neither.

As usual it is a knee jerk reaction to where we currently find ourselves.

What we really need is an experienced manager who knows how to work with the squad at his disposal.

A lot of the players that are currently at the club were good players before and will be again. They need direction and they need to regain confidence. A number will be moved on in due course but that is for the future.

Nah, a lot of these players aren't going to be good enough, either that or they won't get a chance to prove themselves.

Just look at our current situation, when are we going to be happy to play Klaassan for an extended run of games to play him into some form?

Baines run out contract....
Rooney run out contract....
McCarthy sell
Martina. Sell
Klausen. Sell
Lennon. Sell
NIASSE. Sell
Williams run out contract
Jags. 1 more year.....?

I think we're so used to seeing frugal Everton drip-feed a couple of new signings a season into the side, coz that's all we could afford. However, doing this means fairly minimal disruption to a team's standard of play.

However.... trying to bed in 7-8 new signings with our new-found "wealth", having a couple of key players out with long-term injuries, a couple of other key players badly out of form, and not replacing easily our best source of goals, we're seeing the end result unfortunately. Let's not put the "SELL" sign up on Klaassen/Sandro/Siggurdsson just yet. They're good players, they will show it eventually, however given our current predicament we just need them to show it sooner rather than later.

All depends on who we bring in.

But let's say we bring in exactly what we need:

CB
LB
W
ST

I'd say then we should be getting rid of:

Stekelenburg
Martina
Garbutt
Williams
Jagielka
Besic
Mirallas
Lennon
Niasse

That would leave us with a squad of:

GK: Pickford, Robles, Gray
RB: Coleman, Kenny
LB: NEW, Baines
CB: NEW, Keane, Holgate, Funes Mori
DM: Schneiderlin, Gueye, Baningime
CM: Davies, Klaassen, McCarthy
AM: Barkley, Rooney, Sigurdsson
RW: NEW, Vlasic
LW: Bolasie, Lookman
ST: NEW, Calvert-Lewin, Sandro

27-Man Squad with good competition in all places.

A lot of the stated players looked half their ability because of our suicidal high line. We have the physicality to sit back and play on the counter.

The only player who simply doesn't belong to this club is Martina. Besides the natural downward progression of our long-standing players, Barkley should be next - he doesn't look a bit interested in being here at all, and only the freak injury ended his job hunting spree this summer.

..it’s not so much about who should go, it’s more about who should come in.

Disagree to an extent.

I think a freshen up of the squad is essential and for me, a lot of that is ridding ourselves of under performing players who dont take any responsibility, lack accounability and quite frankly are no way near good enough. Physically gone, the dont even display mental measures we could argue are benefitting the team on the pitch.

Baines, Williams, Jags, Martina all fall into that category.
