He didn't block him, Anelka ran into him, deliberately on top of that. He could easily have rounded him. What was Howard supposed to do then, dig a hole and lie in it?

Anelka has looked for it, yes. But like I say, I've seen that kind of thing happen on the pitch with players and the ref has given a freekick due to it being a block, sometimes I've seen ref's not give it.

Howard does turn his body and shoulders him in the chest...Whether Howard was moving to go for the ball or not, doesnt matter, its a body-block. End of the day, the player is through on goal one on one with the keeper...unless the keeper gets a hand on the ball, any contact with a player is gonna be a foul.

Can't make my mind up about that penalty. Firstly Neville, you tool

But 100000 times out of 10, I'd want a penalty our way, so can't complain, but he's knocked it round him, and then just run into him. Howard didn't run in to Anelka....tough one. We've got to make set pieces count second half

Ok. So what law of the game did Howard break? That happens outfield and half the time its not given.

Howard didn'r run into him, he ran towards him, stopped whilst Anelka was several yards away and Anelka instead of trying to go round him ran straight towards a stationary opponent.

Close to an obstruction yeah but it wasn't. Hence why the ref only gave a yellow cause he knew it was an iffy decision.

He made no attempt to move towards the ball at the feet of the player, the ball went out of his influence and he statically stood in the way of the attacking player. You have to make a play for the ball if you make contact with an opposition player.

In short, a block - clear penalty and extremely fortunate to be on the pitch.

Penalty all day long, and if we're honest, Distin was lucky to get away with his handball in the area.

I personally think Distin should have stopped play and admitted it was a penalty. I could sleep easy at night then :P

Not over yet lads, we could sneak a draw.

Handballs have to be intentional. Distin didn't move his hand towards the ball, in fact when he noticed it had gone through Kalou's legs he tried to move his hand away.

Malouda should have been sent off though. A bit of a stamp and a hand to the face.

Yeah, the cheating tw*t ^^ Never did like the French.

It's the "hand in an unnatural position" rule ain't it - he didn't move towards the ball or deliberately stop it's trajectory.

I'm getting ready to give the site administrator about a 10 day temp ban to think about his actions here.

He gave a yellow because defenders were back in time...
