Calum McManaman

Couldn't agree more. For all the wonderful facilities we have brought through Rodwell and Barkley who both looked scared to express themselves. Yet we have supposedly had fabulous teams at youth levels. Kids will make mistakes but you have to learn your trade somewhere. I think Aston Villa is a good example. They have had a very rough season but they will benefit from the young lads getting experience. Some will not make the grade but they have unearthed some gems this year for very little outlay.

Agreed, playing the likes of Lowton, Bennett, Lichaj, Clarke, Westwood, Albrighton and even Delph and Sylla who were brought in are all u23 - will benefit Villa massively in the long run. Remarkable that they did stay up really as all those have featured quite significantly and have little to no experience at this level.

The thing with Mcmannamn is that he was sent out on loan to Blackpool which was the making of him, if we sent more of our good young players out on loan for proper first team action, we'd get more out of them. Only have to look at Lukaku this season

mate, he wouldn't have been given a chance on the bench over naismith. anyway, lets hope for our sakes he's not all that, but kennedy is

He was 15 when he was let go mate, he's 21 now and just establishing himself, it's harder in your second season your not a surprise package anymore and opponents study your game etc.

Hope he makes it but still has much to prove.

He's a big blue isn't he.

Fair play to lad for making it after being let go at 15 was prob the making of him.

He looks a good tenacious PL player - it's his first season don't forget, would he get into our team over Belg Kev - not so sure.

It'd mean that Kev could play as a striker (his preferred position) if we were to play him on the right wing.

...I mentioned him a week ago on this site and got shouted down. General concensus was that we let him go because he's a bit of a knob and we don't want him back. He looks ok to me.

Coleman can play just as well as him doing the same job. Though he does look like another arshavin type player eg one we could've should've snapped up as soon as he played against us, yes I know about the whole transfer window thing ,but you know what I mean.

Re EFC coaching staff ( and I have firsthand knowledge of this ) if you're not built like anichebe you have to be really really REALLY good as a youngster to make it as any sort of ' skill ' type player, late developer is a foreign concept to them

There is certainly something there. He mad a mockery of one of the best one on one defenders in the prem. He's so agile its unreal, his changes of direction remind you of a certain United legend. The only problem I could see is his end product because despite how good he was he didn't come close to creating a goal but that will hopefully come with time. We've lacked a wide threat on the right for a while and I'm confident him and Coleman would reek havock together. Shows you how much these coaches know when they let a footballer with his upside go.
