The issue I would raise straight away is that any real change should have happened this summer and yet again we got a repeat of the Kenwright show with him apparently playing a starring role this time. Whole other discussion that but even taking away from who we bought and where from, did we expect any different? We bought from bottom half or championship teams and have not improved in the slightest! If this was liverpool we would royally take the mickey, except we did it, we signed the best player from a bad team and now all look shocked as to why they ended up here and not to a genuinely competitive club.We are far too sentimental with our players. How long did we keep Howard in the team with all the times he cost us? The same is happening with Jagielka. The same is happening with players like Mirallas. How long has he been here now? And his best competition has come from the likes of Kone and Aaron Lennon, a Spurs reject. Even '60,000' Coleman, when has he actually consistently played well?
Someone in our squad will have a good game and everyone gets blinkered into thinking their starting spot is safe. Lack of genuine world class players and lack of squad competition has been our shortfall for 20 years. I share your concerns, and I think on the way to change we are going to experience games like this. Just hopefully we have the right owners and right management now to take us forward.
Perhaps if this is not a blip but the real everton then we need to gut this first team. At the very least gut the squad and start from there, sign new first team players and relegate the existing ones into the squad instead.
Because for what it's worth I think koeman is the right man for the job. If he can taking a torn apart saints twice to a Europa league position then he is the right man to do it to us. But is it it worrying this team is still struggling?
