Presumably, this is the 38-Man squad they were referring to:

  1. Pickford
  2. Robles
  3. Stekelenberg
  4. Coleman
  5. Kenny
  6. Martina
  7. Baines
  8. Galloway
  9. Garbutt
  10. Robinson
  11. Jagielka
  12. Williams
  13. Keane
  14. Funes Mori
  15. Holgate
  16. Pennington
  17. Browning
  18. Gueye
  19. Baningime
  20. Schneiderlin
  21. McCarthy
  22. Besic
  23. Klaassen
  24. Rooney
  25. Sigurdsson
  26. Davies
  27. Dowell
  28. Tarashaj
  29. Vlasic
  30. Walcott
  31. Lookman
  32. Bolasie
  33. Mirallas
  34. Sandro
  35. Onyekuru
  36. Tosun
  37. Calvert-Lewin
  38. Niasse

Would be quite happy to see all those in bold gone. That’s TWENTY players. Madness.

Sounds like there's going to be a good old fashioned fire sale at Everton this summer. That pleases me greatly. Sounded like they understand that we can afford to bin off loads of players and be very picky about signings, no point replacing guff with guff and they know it. It's the polar opposite to the scatter gun debacle of last year. We're finally planning and going somewhere, I'm confident of it.

Think quite a lot of people myself included would give Keane a last chance, as above would only leave two centre halves - really don't think we'll get two in this summer.

Other than that top cull list!!!!

I know in my previous post, I mentioned those twenty names. However, I can’t see there being that much business being done in one window; plus, it’d only leave us with 18 players before bringing anyone in.

Can imagine that interview being along the lines of brands asking him who he wants out and who in, if he agreed and vice versa with all he said, then can see that being a massive plus sign they are in the same wavelength.

I'm sure he wrote when we got him, that he was:
1) Young progressive coach
2) Plays attacking football (so aims to win).
3) works well with younger players
4) A good coach who will improve players.

We would have known that already but always good to be assured of it, and know he's not going to want to sign lads approaching 30 like Koeman did (Bolasie, Williams, Gueye & Schneiderlin

It's clear the direction Brands will go in, young, talented football players and to be fair he's ensured a coach who's on board with that. That is sensible and works well for me.

We will prioritise this window lb, CB, CM and winger (Lozano).

I wouldn't rule out a lot of younger signings though.

I anticipate he will try to move on: Williams, Jagielka, Baines, Schneiderlin, Besic, Bolasie, Martina, Mori, Mirallas, Niasse & Rooney. Won't be possible to move all on, but most will go.

I suspect you may see the likes of Dowell, Lookman, Williams, Connolly, Robinson all join up with the first team squad as fillers.

Good press conference. Squad needs trimming and this will take time with cut price sales and loans. Could bring in up to 80m and save 700k a week on salaries in my opinion. My outs would be as follows:
Rooney Free
Mirallas 2m
Morgan 16m
Williams 3m
Bolasie 10m
Besic 6m
Sandro 10m
Klaassen 15m
Coco 1m
Niasse 12m
Mori 8m

Looking back on last season only Rooney and Niasse were the only 2 positive contributors IMO

Spend another 80m along with sales and try and get 3 or 4 good quality signings in.

Spot on.

I can see us getting rid of a lot of those players in the list but in some cases, only if and when they are replaced.

Prime examples are the CB, CM and LW positions.

Keane, Williams, RFM, Pennington and Browning are all not good enough in the grand scheme. However, you’d keep Keane on until a second CB could be signed in future, plus maybe one of Browning or Pennington.

In centre mid, it’d only leave 5 players, three of whom are U21! Again, you’d keep one or two (Klaassen perhaps? Maybe Besic? McCarthy because he can’t be sold whilst injured), even though they’re ultimately not good enough. Keep them until they can be replaced properly.

Left wing, you might keep Bolasie or Sandro until you can replace them properly.

We need to be realistic; the squad requires major surgery, but it can’t all be achieved in one window. Some of the deadwood will still be here come the start of the season.

Watched the press conference felt very positive. Just caught Silva on R Merseyside and was immensely impressed. Brands on now. They've won me right off. Get to work getting rid of the dead wood and costly wages and mould a new team successful team.

Bold Jagielka and Baines and give Keane another chance and I’d agree.

I thought todays press conference was fine. It put Silva, as manager, front and centre but I got the impression Brands will oversee most things at the club. It showed we had articulate people running things and we are going to be more media savvy. Though given Fat Sam's performances we couldn't be worse.
We didn't learn anything but it is still nice to hear plans for the future, I am content they will take stock of what we have before making any decisions, the knee jerk reaction in the last window didn't serve any purpose other than emptying the coffers.
It looks like we are going to get a coherent strategy for future development which is what's been missing for years.
38 players on the books, when you look at who those players are and the wages we must be paying, is ridiculous. We need to have a clear out. It looks like that clear out will cost us plenty even before we start to bring in new players. Making up for past mistakes is going to be very costly. Kenwright should resign for over seeing such a shambles.

That Marcel is a cool character, suave & dapper, sounds like he knows his onions too.

Roll on the end of this transfer window & start of the season.

Have a feeling we will start seeing some movements next week to be honest mate...

Yes, think we’ll see SOME movement next week, if you mean Rooney shipping out (significant wage freed up).

Given we surely need to start the season with at least 5 less, ideally 10 (so if we want 5 quality additions, we need 10-15 out), I think most of the activity will be late in the window.
