Brands & Silva press conference.

Bold Jagielka and Baines and give Keane another chance and I’d agree.

Interesting.

I think Baines’ future is closely linked to Robinson. Silva & Brands will no doubt be studying his tape from last season at Bolton (and USA) and seeing if he is an adequate backup. If he is, then LB becomes less of a priority. We can live with Baines & Robinson in that position until we free up enough funds and squad places. If he’s not good enough, we buy a first teamer, demote Baines to backup and send Robinson on loan again.

As for Jagielka, I would agree; if we were able to sign TWO starting quality centre backs (which I doubt). So for now, as crazy as it is, Jags is the best CB we have at the club...

Keane has shown absolutely nothing for me. His one-v-one defending is one of the worst I’ve ever seen in a Blue shirt; players go past him as though he isn’t even there. His reading of the play is poor and his positioning when the ball is in wide areas is horrendous for a centre half. Plus, he’s not the most gifted in possession, which by all accounts he’ll need to be under Silva.

Keane is a weird one, I spent a couple of months working near Burnley and went to a couple of their home games with a Burnley supporting mate, Keane looked the part and I was really pleased when we signed him, but I can't disagree with the comments about him in a blue shirt, he's a different player. I can't work out whether it's down to the players alongside him, the coach/manager, or that he's lost the plot.

He craps himself when someone with pace comes near him, I think it's a confidence issue and more. If you're a CB you a partner that you will start every game with and he didn't have that. I think its 50-50 on him being a bit naff and having low confidence and the managers and players losing it.

United were sniffing around him so I don't think he's THAT bad.

Good press conference. Squad needs trimming and this will take time with cut price sales and loans. Could bring in up to 80m and save 700k a week on salaries in my opinion. My outs would be as follows:
Rooney Free
Mirallas 2m
Morgan 16m
Williams 3m
Bolasie 10m
Besic 6m
Sandro 10m
Klaassen 15m
Coco 1m
Niasse 12m
Mori 8m

Looking back on last season only Rooney and Niasse were the only 2 positive contributors IMO

Spend another 80m along with sales and try and get 3 or 4 good quality signings in.

Agree with pretty much all of that. Realistic fees (imo) as well which is good to see. I do fear we’ll have to let a number of the players go out on loan with a small fee received and us contributing to wages but hopefully not.

If we're doing squads:

Pickford; Stekelenburg; Hewlet;

Coleman; Kenny; Keane; Holgate; Jagielka*; New CB; New LB; Baines;

Klaassen; Davies; Schneiderlin; New CDM; Sigurdsson; Gana; New CM;

Walcott; Lookman; Tosun; Calvert-Lewin; Niasse; Bolasie; New LW;

Sell: Robles; Browning; Galloway; Garbutt; Williams; Funes Mori; Martina; Besic; McCarthy, Rooney; Mirallas;

Loan: Pennington (can't sell now);
Dowell (needs another year after his second half of last season);
Baningime (Needs to be playing, looks a player but with everything else going on this is a year too early for him here);
Onyekuru (work permit);
Vlasic (see Baningime);
Robinson (will either come back in a year and replace Baines and compete with New LB or move on);

Would sell but unlikely to happen: Jagielka; Schneiderlin; Niasse; Bolasie

*One more year as forth choice. We were glad we had them when things went so wrong this year. Next summer he can hopefully ride off into the sunset with Baines.

Major League cull

Get back from training and there’s a red tag in your locker

See ye

The summer window is always busy for agents, even more so in a WC year.

But I can hear the bleeping of texts and the ringing of mobiles in Liverpool from down here.

Very impressive, very positive, neither Bill or Farhad hogging the limelight, both football guys, both stern in the right way, both positive, both happy to build, both media savvy it seems, both maybe bringing new contacts in the game, neither have favourites, both know that it is a big job, both want to succeed. I loved it! Haven't said that for some time now.

All aboard the good ship Everton, onward towards a new horizon, or are we simply sailing into another false dawn, who knows, tune in for the next exciting episode...
