Pre season results matter very little imo what I do find concerning was that line up, I know a fair few are not first team regulars but you need strength in depth , quality and i don’t see it in a few areas with that squad

Seeing people laud Niasse as they do, yeah he’s got a good attitude and seems a good lad but ask yourself is he the type of player we should be having here to aspire for better than monotonous 8th/mid table finishes?

I’d never thought I’d say this, I’m getting bored with Everton, we just exist, every summer the hype deflates into another underwhelming season and we go on and on in the same manner year after year and it’s taking its toll.

Yes the new director/manager need time but again the club drags things on and on, stifling excitement. A lot of the bigger gobs on social media kept saying how important this summer and our first signing was only a few days ago, they were backtracking before the player was set to come here. Make your minds up, it’s either a majorily important summer or it isn’t.

Sorry for the rant, I just don’t want this to be another one step forward and two or three back situation, we’ve had far too many of them over the years and it’s gets frustrating.

I think the question is more about who to keep and who to get rid off as we rebuild. Niasse is one of them that isn't burning a hole in the club, gets the odd goal, and is happy to be a squad player.

Forget about midtable finishes, the team and squad are that poor we won't get anywhere higher. This is a long term rebuild

Few things.

Richarlison is our best player by a country mile.

Yes we were crap but it’s pre season. I reckon bed wetting is quite premature.

Silva has said he has an obligation to see all the players in action - plenty failed in this audition. In a way it was a necessary torture.

If Richarlison is anything to go by, this lot can spot a player - further additions will plug gaps.

Perhaps Blackburn are further on in their fitness program as their league starts sooner, and factor in the full training session we had in the morning.

And most importantly for me, we have been a mess since Moyes left, it’s gonna take him more than 7 weeks to fix.

Yes it was. If you aren't completely blind like some, you can see how Silva's teams like to build up from the back and spring the outside backs. While Keane and Jags aren't great at it, Gana did a decent job in the second half and we successfully attacked down the wings, even with the slow footed Baines. They were fortunate to score and win the second half, we missed a couple sitters and dominated.

Pennington and Williams along with Besic and Davies simply could not bring the full/wing backs. The CBs kept passing it back to Stek, who was a mess with it, and Besic just kept trying unecessarily difficult passes in his half and giving the ball away. Gylfi was playing higher up the field as was Oumar, and they could not get the ball. Robinson got lose a couple times, pretty much of his own doing and Mirallas had it in some dangerous areas but did nothing with it. We had an obvious PK not called and Gylfi probably could've scored. but we simply could not move the ball out of the back.

And the marking on set pieces was a complete disgrace. Pennington played maybe the worst half I've seen a player have in a long time. He made Williams look good.

I’ve seen the whole second half and thought we created a lot. Really want to see the first half to see your point about the midfield. Besic has been so promising.

Niasse is at his best as an impact sub, tbh. I wouldn't start him unless we had no better options.
That defence is horrible. Why is that useless lump Ashley Williams still wearing the shirt never mind captain?
He makes Jagielka look like Gerrard.

That Niasse comment is perfection.

It's ridiculous how many people think that he genuinely is the answer - and that he should be starting.

The problem is, after Tosun there's no real threat.

Generally speaking, Niasse should be third choice on the list.

First half was an embarrassment frankly, not one player put his hand up and put in a performance that forces his way into the side against wolves.
Second half time was better, but still a number of players looked off the pace. Coleman, Gana and Richarlison looked the most promising. However I’m really worried about our defence and in particular central defence. We don’t have a decent Centre half at the club and it’s showing. The defence needs addressing ASAP, let’s hope Brands brings back some defenders from Barcelona.

Who else is there? Rennes is tomorrow too. Don’t want players injured!
Just don’t see the point in it myself. If they have no future here, they shouldn’t be playing here. It’s abundantly clear that our first 11 need as many minutes together as possible to get used to Marcos ways. As to the Rennes game? That’s a favour to get a lad signed imo.

Real eye opener last night for the manager and prob not a bad thing now he knows that we need at least 2 CB's and a striker on top of what he is looking for at LB and CM. He has given players chances and not sure any of them have taken it.

So hoping now over next 2 games we see the team close to what we will see on the opening day and integrate any new players over he next month. With Walcott and Lookman been out we have been slow on the break until Richarilson came on last night. Think either of them 2 and him is very promising but we need quality brought in that will start games as the squad players have not stepped up.

No panic yet , just concern and hope that manager and Brands pull it together. expecting a slow start to season but if I see progress each game that will do as Im realistic about the mess the squad is in.

They had a full training session in the morning? That could explain a lot.

Cenk missing two chances doesn't mean we suddenly have a dire need at striker. Granted Cenk probably isn't going to trouble the golden boot race but who can we get that will? Batshauyi might be the only one and Chelsea will do everything to move him out of England.

More generally I think people need to understand that a 1 in 2 or 1 in 3 game goalscorer doesn't mean he is going to score every other game. Sometimes it'll be a run of not scoring followed by 4 in 3 or something like that. They aren't bad players during the cold streak.
