Cenk missing two chances doesn't mean we suddenly have a dire need at striker. Granted Cenk probably isn't going to trouble the golden boot race but who can we get that will? Batshauyi might be the only one and Chelsea will do everything to move him out of England.

More generally I think people need to understand that a 1 in 2 or 1 in 3 game goalscorer doesn't mean he is going to score every other game. Sometimes it'll be a run of not scoring followed by 4 in 3 or something like that. They aren't bad players during the cold streak.
never said he was a bad player just think we need a quality striker brought in as well as him. Niasse is not gonna start many games so we need options for when Cenk has a bad run. fact he was getting into positions is positive and he will get goals with the improved supply but its a long season

We do have DCL too. I just don't see many players we can go and get who are clear upgrades on Cenk and we have so many holes in our first XI (CB LB and DM at least) that those areas need to be addressed first and foremost. Niasse and DCL are good enough as bench players

it went down about 5 minutes into the game, came back about 20 minutes from the end, they had a power outage whatever that means.

Few things.

Richarlison is our best player by a country mile.

Yes we were crap but it’s pre season. I reckon bed wetting is quite premature.

Silva has said he has an obligation to see all the players in action - plenty failed in this audition. In a way it was a necessary torture.

If Richarlison is anything to go by, this lot can spot a player - further additions will plug gaps.

Perhaps Blackburn are further on in their fitness program as their league starts sooner, and factor in the full training session we had in the morning.

And most importantly for me, we have been a mess since Moyes left, it’s gonna take him more than 7 weeks to fix.

This is a measured post which is all true.

This might sound odd, but I was more concerned with the Bury game than last night. Against Bury we looked ponderous in attack, most of our chances came from Niasse bulldozing his way past league 1 defenders. Last night we were much sharper going forward but didn't finish a number of good opportunities.

Defensively we were awful. That is the real concern I have for us, but it's not a new concern. Williams looks even further gone this summer than last. I think Jagielka looks to have fallen off the same cliff. Keane looks ill suited to play the way Silva wants, and Pennington is a championship defender. When you throw in that Stekelenberg let in 2 saveable shots and puts nerves into the back 4 it's a recipe for concern.

They are also not getting enough protection from Gueye & Schneiderlin (or Besic/Davies) though at least the latter two offer something going the other way. I am very concerned about the former two, who's job it is to protect the back 4 and don't seem very capable of doing it. That 3rd goal was a travesty last night.

However I do reiterate I am not sure what we learned that was new last night. We need a centre back in more desperately than a left back in my view. I thought Robinson deputised quite well. It wouldn't be ideal to go with him as back up, but it's a million miles better than keeping most of those centre backs.

This is now a pivotal moment for both Silva and Brands. the niceties have gone. The easy games have gone. Players were badly exposed last night and what he does next becomes quite significant. We shouldn't be bombing everyone out (and I'm a bit surprised to see lads like Tosun, Dowell and Davies taking the brunt) but we need to move forward. I have seen we've extended a credit facility, which presumably cab give us some wriggle room and allow us to hopefully get Mina/Digne done. If that happens we will be a lot better off.

Last season some of the many excuses was 'it's only preseason' or 'they need time to gel'.

I think a little bit of worrying is allowed, considering we're playing woefully and look wild in defence

Didn't watch the game and was disappointed with the result and, reading comments on here, the performance too. You expect much better against 3rd tier opposition, even with a weakened team. But things need to be put into perspective.

Firstly it is pre season, and generally pre season form is not reliable as a base for judging the forthcoming season. It is also clear that Silva is giving certain players an opportunity to state their case, something he promised he would do and I believe is only fair. The fact we played so poorly was perhaps, in hindsight, a good thing because certain players may well have been playing themselves into Silva's mind. Hopefully last night sealed their fate.

Quite a few players are still missing for whatever reason. We've seen nothing so far of Walcott, Beni or DCL, Lookman only has 45 mins in the run out against the Austrian amateurs and Holgate's lack of playing time can only point to an ongoing niggle he has. We've probably missed Holgate more than anyone as he is the only current CB with the pace to play the way Silva wants us to. Siggy and Gana were bound to be a bit leggy having only just returned from their holidays, and, of course, Jordan still hasn't returned.

Yes, we need players in key positions. But we already knew that. I'm happy that Brands does have that in hand.

Concerns that we won't have new arrivals up and running in time for the new season are fully justified. Luckily the fixture list has been kinder to us this season. If we had last years it would have been a struggle.

I am starting to get worried now, I am not convinced either of the lads from Barcelona are coming here, I hope we have other plans ready in case it does fall through, lets be honest any player watching our pre seasons games and results will not want to come here.

I watched the whole game, obviously not on the club video feed. The B team were just woeful but if the A team start converting the chances then we'll not be too bad. Cenk is a lamentable apology for a striker though, we'll need to upgrade there as a priority. The rest may fall into place once we stop letting the opposition get cock a hoop by playing such a weak apology for a team for the first 45 minutes. Leaves the real side chasing the game in the second half.
It's only pre season true but I doubt that they want to lose against the likes of Blackburn.
