Billy's future

I think people are quick to judge. We didn't want Neville. Distin earning the moniker 'Dustbin'. Fellaini being slow and lumbering. Saha being a crock. Ossie being too small and anonymous. Beckford having no composure. They're all criticisms of players who've gone on to demonstrate their worth. Hopefully Bily will change a few people's opinions of him too, if he can get in to a rhythm.

Thats a sweeping genralisation mate, people are making an honest assessment after two years , i think the majoroity of the posts in this thread arent reactionary - there is somevery good analyse in this thread and i think a lot of it is fair and balanced - many also said AVDM would come good for four years.

Heres a question is there a reason why we shouldnt sell him if someone offered us 9 mill?

It's not a sweeping generalisation. I've given specific examples of players who were initially derided by a portion of fans. Of course there are flaws to Bily's game, but I think that he's shown more than enough to merit a longer stay of execution. Anichebe has scored something like 3 goals since 2007 but he doesn't receive the same degree of criticism.

The cases of VdM and Bily are very different. Andy would fail to turn up for training and refused to move. Bily, on the other hand, is a model professional. He has very quickly picked up the language and has never once complained about the way he's been used in the first team. Watch clips of him on Youtube. Again and again he scores from distance with blockbusting strikes or he comes in round the back of the defence to score. There are also a few examples of his quick feet to lose a defender and give himself a scoring opportunity.

I think, if someone put some faith in him, he'd be a fantastic player. I hope we don't sell him, but I fear that Moyes doesn't know how to get the best out of him and that he'll be sacrificed.

When you say many mate, you cant use it as a sweeping generalistion for the guys posting in this thread many are very non reactionary. The second genralisation is that all players will come good at Everton like the ones you mention - they all wont and the analyese and evidance given by others is fair - they are baseing their opinion on fact you on beleif. I would to if i saw any potential which i havent. I often back Rodwell and Anicebe on here because i see the potenial.

TBH i dont think Billy is one of those cases, he is out of his class in the PL. I think your wrong about showing enough, hes scored some belters, but his overall play, influence on the game and impact on the team have been poor and marked by inconsistencey. He cant influence a game, he cant impact consistently on a game for 90 mins - they are bare essentials - after two years he should be showing signs of improved performences - he hasnt.

Lets be honest mate, youtube isnt a great source of a players through potential, you could post a vid of all his ace everton goals but it doesnt tell the full picture really does it.

Like i say, i cant think of a reason why if someone offered us 9 mill for Billy why we shouldnt take it?

*Would love it if you were right on this, but...................................

I like Billy. I still wish we'd get a really ace player and give them number 7. It's my favourite number and its been taken by Billy the last 2 seasons, AVM for 2 seasons before that and before that someone else gash probably. Moutinho 7. Taaasty.

I'm saying that many people have got on Bily's back. Heitinga's performances have been much worse than Bily's, but he hasn't been singled out for it. I don't feel that the criticism is in proportion. He seems to have been made a scapegoat. Maybe it's because people want more of an out and out winger or someone in the mould of Pienaar? I've given you plenty of evidence of why we should persist with him...the fact that he hasn't been given a run of more than 4 starts and that he only played 3 full matches in the second half of the season, so he's not been able to find a rhythm....his goals return of 1 in 5...his historical goals return..the accolades and responsibilities he was given in Russia...video evidence of his dead ball delivery in the Europa League etc. It's you who is basing your opinions on your own beliefs.

What have Rodwell or Anichebe given that Bily hasn't? Victor has made 34 career league starts for us and scored 7 goals. Bily has made 26 career league starts and scored 8 goals. Bily made 2 assists last season. Rodwell made 1 and Anichebe none. What criteria are we going by? Is it Vic's ability to beat a man you see the potential in? His tackling back? His heading?

So you're telling me that an established Russian international, who plays with Pavlyuchenko, Arshavin and Zhirkhov, who was a key member of his national sides run to the semi-final of Euro 2008 and who scored both goals in their World Cup Play Off win against Slovenia isn't good enough to rub shoulders with Leon Osman?!!!

How's he supposed to achieve any level of consistency when Moyes won't allow him to find his feet? Who exactly out of our forward players have achieved the "bare essentials" of consistency this season? Beckford? Saha? Arteta? Fellaini? Cahill? Coleman?

Could we put together a Youtube video of all Anichebe or Rodwell's ace Everton goals?

Nothing like a good vent! ha Bily's attitude has been absolutely first class. He's dedicated himself to learning the language. He's never once complained or courted the attention of other clubs. And it's obvious that he's taken onboard the message to help out more defensively because he was getting stuck in with tackles and coming away with the ball to set up an attack. I can't criticise him.

I'm not anti-Moyes, I just get frustrated when he perseveres with something that just doesn't work, like Arteta playing so deep in midfield. I want him to have that eureka moment with Bily. Goals (of all descriptions) seem to be an asset of his much more than it was with Pienaar. He's been getting about 10 per season for Lokomotiv on a regular basis and it was 6 or 7 he got for us in his first season (and as a bit part player). If he can get 10 for us, then he would have been our top scorer in the league last season. He's not going to be able to do that by running back with Baines all the time and coming on with a few minutes left. We need to give him the opportunity to do what he does best.

Can you become his agent, I reckon we'd get £12m for him now?!!
