2025/26 Beto

Remember when he went on his scoring run last season then we played Bournemouth (possibly) who had clearly done their prep better, and the defence stood off, didn't let him get in behind and our whole plan fell apart. Playing to strengths is fine against half arsed teams and naive managers, as soon as it’s nullified he doesn’t have enough to do anything else.
Thought other parts of his game had improved towards the end of the season but for the majority of this season he has been very poor and we should look to sell in the summer.
It's yet another example of people just wanting to lurch between players being fantastic or terrible with nothing in between. We have to make out like he's an utterly useless yard dog who should be playing in the conference north and then he scores 2 goals and suddenly he's a 20 goal a season striker if you use him right etc, it's ridiculous. He's a below average PL striker overall but he's got his plus points and can cause teams problems and score goals on his day, just like a dozen or more others at other clubs. He's not good enough if we want to push on but you don't play in the top flight in England, Portugal and Italy and get bought for £25m etc by accident. The hyperbole about how bad the likes of him, Barry, McNeil, Patterson, Keane etc are is embarrassing, it's like some people have never seen any other footballers other than the ones who play for us.

Beto is an extremely likeable person and seems very popular with players and fans alike but I still think he will leave this summer.
His recent performances and goals will have helped restore his value but we need a more reliable striker.

Barry is younger and probably a better long term prospect and I think may be better again next season , I realise his form this season has been mixed but at times we have seen what a good player he may yet be.

We should be trying more through balls than we do though rather than playing slow sideways or backwards

Perhaps, but we had 36% possession, I think we're using that tactic as much as we should.

And has nice as that pass was and that finish was, the chances of replicating that consistently are incredibly low.

You can't center an entire attack around getting your striker 1v1 opportunities, though.
I'm not saying we should. I am saying we need to take more advantage of an off-the-shoulder striker. I long for the day Everton are an attacking side, not a reactive one where the main focus is on keeping it tight at the back and our striker always plays with his back to the goal. I love a good tight defence - and full credit to our players and the manager for that (Dyche had them tight too, so the players get most credit here), but I'd like to see us evolve into a side that wants the ball and has more of the ball and is looking the other way - at the opposition goal.

ive said it many times Beto is like a terrier chases every ball but many times when he gets it does not know what to do but you love them just the same

Cracking all round game tbf to him on Saturday. He’s still absolutely nowhere near what we need long term but you can’t not like him.

I have to say though that’s one of the weakest Chelsea teams I’ve ever seen come up here. Naive manager, soft as anything defence. Woeful really at the back.
