Baines or Oviedo?

Pienaar hasn't played as many games this season as you'd think, so there should be possibilities for game time on that left wing spot, at least until Deleufeau comes back.

i think dela will be option for right wing now competing with mrallas

when he returns we have depth in quality positions

Oviedo for me, i love baines but hes been average this year and oviedo has had a better efeect in the games hes played both defensively and going forward.

And if your gonna play them both, id rather see baines in front of oviedo. Oviedo didnt look effective in LM and baines got caught out a few times defensively

Baines could be another Distain or Giggs who knows ? Or he could very easily go the other way and fall to pieces, only the Everton medical staff truly know the answer to that one. I still say that Everton would do very well to give serious deliberation if a bid of 15 million gets tabled from United.

Baines will be bombing up and down the wing at 35 mate, the lad's a machine. Pienaar said in an interview that he and Distin spend the most time doing conditioning in the gym, hence why they're hardly ever injured.

Opinions are like ars*holes, everybody's got one.

The slap in the face you talk so freely about would be benching Baines mate...please take a moment to see the forest through the trees. Big picture like if you can...

And if one person considers their opinion to be more correct than another persons' opinion, does that by default make that person then, an ars*hole?

We improved dramatically when Peienaar came on. Watching it live, Baines and Oviedo was nowhere near as effective. The shape of the team and the movement was much worse. Maybe it was a tactical instruction but it didn't work compared to when Pienaar was playing.

For the record, Baines first but as the person who stared the Oviedo thread I think he is a great replacement if needed.

I watched it live too. Southampton doubled up on Oviedo every time he got the ball. Chambers put in two tackles worthy of yellow cards on him, and I think Ward-Prowse had a chunk of him as well. Pienaar was not given anything like the same attention. Yes he gave the pass to McCarthy in the lead-up to the second goal, but that's ALL he did.

Baines and Oviedo were an effective pairing - so much so that Southampton put extra bodies in that area to snuff them out, which was why Coleman and Barkley had so much space elsewhere. I also felt that Oviedo provides much better cover for Baines when the latter bombs forward - Pienaar does not fill me with any confidence when defending fast breaks where Baines has been caught in an advanced position.

Baines was below par yesterday as to be expected not match fit - Oviedo is a better left back at the moment looked lost playing out wide left imo! needs to be in the team somewhere as he shoots on sight. and has been our better players lately!

Baines and Oviedo were constantly in each others' way, they like to take up the same spots. The team looked much better with Pienaar in there.

As far as who starts at LB, it should be Baines for the most part.

Oviedo is too good to drop could have played instead of Osman -his performances do not deserve him to be dropped! Baines has to get Match fit every telling attack was down his side yesterday!

Oviedo, It's not just he's earned his place the kid has been scintillating and while he keeps that standard he plays.

We had all this nonsense with Moyes playing Neville and Cahill for umpteen years based on rep ALWAYS play the man in form otherwise you never improve.

Besides the Coleman one.
It´s a hard choice, yesterday showed the depth of our squad and I can see Oviedo being used alot more as left midfield than left back . It´s a very good problem to have though. He has alot to offer in both positions in my opinion ,the lads a very tidy player and I like the look of him . Alot.

Oviedo to the bench for Stoke, for me.

Baines' delivery will help us. He put in an absolute beauty first half yesterday that could have ended up in the net. Can't wait to see some crosses making it past the first man for Rom.

Oviedo put it on a plate for Barkley yesterday with a low cross after dazzling the defender with a few step overs . Barkley should of scored.

Baines hasn't been average at all. Oviedo has got the headlines (rightly) with his recent displays but he's stepped in as cover for someone that's arguably been the best LB in the country for 3/4 years. Baines is an established player so when he's back fit he comes back into the team. That's it. Full stop. If/when Baines starts playing poorly then he can be dropped.

It still boils down to the contract issue for me.

Until Baines nails his colours to the mast and commits himself to the cause of getting us in the CL for at least the rest of this season then the position is Bryan's, IMO

What kind of message would it sent to Oviedo baby if he was dropped for our games in January only to see Baines head off to OT near the end of the month, given the way he has played since he came in the team?

And from what we have seen of the way Bob operates, I have a feeling that fact will be taken into consideration.

This 100%.

Oviedo has played good. We need to sell Baines in january because RM came out today I think and said Baines is staying 100% until the end of the season which clearly means he is going to united then.

You get more cash selling in January don't you? 15m and run. How much will we get for him in the summer?

I think we all agree Baines isn't signing another deal otherwise it would have been done whilst he was injured
