Baines or Oviedo?

I'm not disputing how well or how good Leighton is. He is world class and the best left back we've had but you don't drop a player based on those reasons. It wouldn't be fair for him to walk straight back in the team, that then shows his place is almost guaranteed

Baines has dominated the left back position for years with amazing consistency, he doesn't deserve to sit on the bench because of injury through no fault of his own.

He is the better player no doubt about that but judging by form, Oviedo is doing so well and really enjoying his football, he should start based on form, not whether Baines is better or more established. Nobody's place is guaranteed and good solid performances should make your stake for the first team.

Baines was injured through no fault of his own but Oviedo has taken his chance and seized on a massive opportunity.

you cant drop oviedo because hes put in 7 or 8 out of 10 performances since playing. but then you have baines who has put in 7 or 8 out of 10 perfomances for the last two seasons. so you have a problem. playing oviedo on the wing is not the answer because hes a full back and we have more than capable wingers who are better than him on the wing. For the first time i would consider selling baines but only if we can get 16 million + for him. hes now 29 and we can get a couple of top class youngsters in for that without really effecting the team.

Oviedo's performances at left back have been at a level Baines is yet to achieve this season and dare I say it, this calendar year. Take away those two free kicks against west ham and he's been pretty average this season.

Problem is that he can't do no wrong by our fans and will always escape criticism after a poor performance. On this seasons evidence, Oviedo is better and not only that, Pienaar has improved with him behind him.

This, for me. Baines hasn't been all that this year, and as much as I love the guy if we can get £16m+ in Jan then the money could definitely be better used elsewhere. Indi and Batty.

Baines is the better left back, silly to pretend otherwise. The thing is now that if United want to offer silly money for Baines and the player wants to go then were so not so exposed - and we can always do with the money.

I reckon we'll wait until the end of the season and check on how young Garbutt is progressing on loan before making a call.

Personally I'd want to keep Baines as he's ace and a local lad but if he doesn't want to sign the contract extension then were forced into a corner.

At the moment its ace to have such serious quality options in positions like this.
