Back Four For The Derby

I can't believe people don't want to start the best left back in the world in a derby game. He has just got back from injury and is better every game. Plus he can do things with the ball and create things Oviedo can't while being a better defender. This is an easy one. I just don't want to see him starting both.

Oviedo has been more influental this season though, i love baines and he is the best LB in the league but it looks like hes holding a little back this season, maybe thats because we're use to every thing going through him and that isnt the case this year.

And in my opinion players shouldnt be selected on reputation, should be on form and contribuition.

I don't think Oviedo has though. When he plays he gets more space purely because he isn't Baines. Baines opens up space for the rest of the side as teams are so wary of him. Just because we are more well balanced this year doesn't make Baines a worse player. Also if Sturridge or Suarez is running at one I know who I would rather was defending.

Can't argue with most of that.

(the only point I disagree with is the bit about Baines being the best LB in the league...for me that accolade goes to the boy plays LB for Citeh)

We'll be playing Duffy in there at this rate.

We are not geared up for injury absorption. We need a proper deep squad full of quality, not the fantasy spun of how we already have one and are just fine tuning.

I'm confused here mate. Last time I checked, it appeared we had one centre back (JH) too many.

To me, Stones looked a bit shaky against Norwich, which is fine, hes a young lad and learning.

Couple of times they got round back of him and he was trying to recover, another couple of giving the ball away a little further up the park.

Against a team like Liverpool though even small mistakes like that against Suarez will be the end of the game.

He struggled gauging the flight of the ball. Nearly cost him 3 times. Other than that, I thought he played well. If he gets caught in possession a few times along the sidelines, that's just growing pains.

If everyone is fit, the back four are Coleman-Jagielka-Distin-Baines. I'm not sure there's even an argument, those are the best four players in their positions.

I'd play Coleman - Jags - Distin (if fit) - Baines. We need our best back 4 out there because Liverpool are going to go route 1 on us and Stones isn't quite ready for that although he would cope if needed. Baines gets in over Oviedo too because despite Oviedo doing really well Baines is a better technical player and is more composed, we're going to need that when we're passing because they will be pressuring us high up the field trying to spawn a deflection or miss-kick. Saying that though Oviedo is no slouch when it comes to passing plus his two footedness could really come in handy if he had to play. End of the day this is one of those nice problems to have and whoever we put out will be more than a match for rat boy and co.

A lot of supporters seem to be crapping themselves already. They can score 4 against us but we can score 5 so lets be a bit more positive.

We have to put out our best team. It doesn't matter that this is the red****e. This is the primary team we are competing with for fourth. We need to play our best team. No room for being sentimental as Oviedo had a few good games. That it is a derby makes it even more important.

As many people have pointed out, Distin always has a stinker against Suarez. But then again, there aren't many that can contain him.

What is the latest with Alcaraz anyway? Why was he not in the squad at the weekend?

The fact is that Suarez is a world class talent who has to be marked and marshalled in any game by any team. Roberto will know that and choose his weapons accordingly.

Apart from acknowledging that we should in my opinion make absolutely no changes or plans based on it being a Derby. It is another game. We have been guilty of making too much of derby games, getting too worked up. Be cool. Its a trip to a decent but by no means superb side which we have every chance of beating....that is all it is.
