Don't want stones at back. His inexperience can cause problem against liverpool attackers.
I'd like to see that, maybe Mirallas left with Pienaar down the middle and McGeady wide. I think Pienaar's more creative than either winger and lacks the pace that they have.
Can see James McCarthy being sent off for two yellows, by the way.
Baines Jagielka Alcaraz Coleman
Would you leave ronaldo out of the real team because he was injured and his replacement had a good few games covering his absence?
Would you start osman over Barkley if he plays well in Ross's absence?
I suspect the answer to both is No....
Baines starts ffs due to his boss'ness over 4 yrs a counting now!!
F*$& me! This dumb thread is still going.
Our back four is Coleman Jags Distin Baines for the derby.
Now...if someone wants to start a smart thread, then use that grey matter in your melon to sort the 'what if's' of fitness, as the OP on this thread shoulda done.
Got to play the regular back four if they're fit.
I do see the point that Distin regularly isn't quite at his brilliant best against these, but he's got the pace, experience and strength, like Jags, to best deal with their front line. Bar set pieces, they handled them well in the first game so it has to be the regular pairing again.
Baines all day long at left back. Again, attacking ability aside, he's the superior defender to Oviedo and that'll be important against these. If we can keep their forwards quiet, that's more than half the battle. They had trouble creating great chances against us at Goodison without lucky deflections, so I'll be confident if we've got the same back line out there again for this.
If we can handle their forwards and are right on our toes with our passing so their closing down is less effective, we can dominate these, like we did Arsenal for 40 mins. Having said that, Barkley will be a big miss so you wonder how well we'll link with Lukaku even if we do see a lot of the ball. I can't stand the sight of Osman from the start in games like these. Can't remember him ever having a good derby.
Baines is nailed on to start mate unless any injury happens, depending on fitness though, if stones and jags play again vs west brom and look as good as they've looked so far, then i wonder at the wisdom of slotting a comebacking distin in against a team he hasn't had many good days versus.
Unless we sign someone, can see it being osman starting, so lets hope we get someone in who can go straight into that role ;p
As long as Distin is fit to play, I personally can't see the lay-off being much of an issue to him, at his age, with his wealth of experience. I'd feel ok if Stones had to start though as they probably won't use the long ball a whole lot and he'd contribute well to our passing game, which could help us suck a bit of the life out of the atmosphere.
Same, I really hope we get someone in because I think they'd have no problem neutralising the little threat Osman possesses, due to his lack of pace and strength. If we were to get a winger in, I'd much prefer to move Pienaar inside and put Mirallas on the left than start Osman. The Belgian's so much more of a threat on that side and Pienaar is excellent behind the striker. This won't happen though. Such a shame Barkley's injured.
