On the plus side, it will regenerate the soil and allow for new growth, look at Madeira. It is a desperate position for the home owners and towns who have lost their way of life, but they will bounce back Australians do that......
A new bushfire has started today in Perth. Nowhere near as big as the ones over East but my house stinks of smoke, probably about 20kms from me. This one is in the southern suburbs of the city, so should hopefully get put out tonight as there is not much bush in the urban areas, but local residents have been told to evacuate the area. No loss of houses or lives, hopefully stays that way.

How do they start.
One of the Perth ones yesterday was a freak accident. Some guy was towing his boat when a wheel came off, and the sparks of the trailer on the road started the fire. It has been beautiful weather here the past few days with zero lightning, so I would hazard a guess the others have been deliberately lit or by carelessness with fag ends or something.
One possibility is this:
"Their observations indicated black kites (Milvus migrans), whistling kites (Haliastur sphenurus) and brown falcons (Falco berigora) congregate around savanna fires, descend to seize burning sticks and transport them in their beaks or talons, either individually or in small cooperative groups. After dropping the sticks in other areas and setting the ground ablaze, these fire specialists swoop closer and grab grasshoppers and other invertebrates in midair as the prey flee the smoldering vegetation."

I don't think so, particularly with their habitat being cleared so quickly. Disgusting what the pigs in charge of this country have done to it in such a short space of time.

If I agreed with you, we’d both be wrong.
There has been a bunch of people arrested for starting fires deliberately.
They were under pressure before the fire, there was odd groups trying to help, but as far as I know, nothing official...or if there was it was very low key - but they often are.
Given that one of the first things Politicians local, state and national do with a visiting big wig is have a koala photo opp.
I think maybe a little payback is in order
