Currently Canberra (the Capital) apparently has the worst rated Air Quality in the world and Penrith a western suburb of Sydney (not really near the fires ) had the worlds hottest temp of 48.2 C for that day.

The Government/Liberal Party also thought it would be a great idea putting out a Government Ad saying how much Defence Force assistance they were giving to the fire fighting effort.

The Murdoch Scum have downplayed the fires in the papers - notably not running them on the front pages. They and other right wing figures have also laid into a number of the people who were on video abusing the PM as being low life Druggies and growing weed etc.

Don't buy anything Murdoch :mad:

Huge shock that he won re-election, but then again the world has been leaning right for a while now. The world as a whole has had political institutions taken over by the rich and powerful for their own interests. It’s beyond tone deaf that people are arguing over the existence of climate change.

The worst thing is we have a friend in our group backing the damn libs, of course he’s a doctor and thinks he’s extremely articulate so he’s trying to spin it as green energy is too expensive. I’m just done with him right now.

This countrys politicians are just puppets owned by our coal masters. And slick advertisements showing how many people are employed either directly or indirectly by mining keeps them from getting too much stick from the public (brainwashed sheep).

it makes me really depressed that people could be that selfish you know, having peoples homes burn down, and telling them other people need their jobs or the economy is going to decline.

We've gone well beyond the climate change tipping point now. Im expecting things to get exponentially worse over the next few years. The amazon will go the same way. Globally the world's biodiversity is getting trashed at an alarming rate.
 
I’m in Gippsland at the moment staying at my brothers place and the smoke was so thick today you could not go outside for long. I drove through east Gippsland over a week ago and would not have been able to a day later. I was living down here in 2009 when black Saturday happened and this is a whole lot worse.
One of my good mates works as an electrician and they have to go into bushfire areas and repair mobile phone towers so people still have the ability to use their phones.

how come they failed to stop this already? one of the richest countries in the world, can't understand. and we were mocking Brazil for amazon fires..

About 20 people have died mate. The sheer amount of bushland in oz - combined with drought...there are bushfires every season, but this is 10 times worse.

Not sure you really understand the scale of the country.

It is horrible seeing all those animals dieing with those bush fires you seen all the celebrity giving what they can.
