Tarkowski has dipped this year, but he had played well for the most part alongside O'Brien. The key denominator in poor performances is always Michael Keane. If you watch games closely, even when Keane as an individual plays okay, the other defenders and midfielders have to shift around to cover him.

He is, and always has been, a massive liability. Apart from in front of the opposition goal.

I've always said that I felt that O'Brien would be the long term Tarkowski replacement. But I come back to Keane being the issue.

When Branthwaite is back and fit, if Moyes wants Tarkowski to partner him then, JOB should be on the bench until he ousts Tarkowski. He should never be at RB again in my opinion.
Brilliant post Dwight, spot on.

You only need to go through our results to see this pattern with Keane in the side and JOB at rb, versus JOB at CB and Patterson in the team - even the data and stat freaks should be able to deduce it, never mind that you can see it with your eyes.

This side is weird.

A match like the recent visit to Nottingham I'd written off and then they get a comfortable win with Pickford barely making a save all game. On a ground where Arsenal and Man. City have been turned over in recent months.

And then you see some of the pap that is being produced at home currently.

Whatever Moyes is doing with preparation for away games he needs to replicate for BMD. Do the team stay in a hotel before home games?

Anyway considering how patched up the team was that was brilliant to watch. Harrison Armstrong going to be the best young player produced for many a year as he looked so comfortable out there today. Shows the value of his two loan spells.

Also J O'B needs to get an extended run centrally. It is time Moyes.
I think it's a few things.
Some teams are easy to read and I think Villa are one of them, tippy tappy football out from the back. Despite what people say about Moyes he's a very good tactician, reads the opposition well and sets his team up to suit away from home.
When we are at home it's totally different, we are expected to be on the front foot and the away teams read us like a book and set up well against us.

I think at home everything needs to be a bit quicker and you will see a different team, Grealish needs to let it go quicker.
We are also a little defensive minded when at home and I think it confuses the players. How many times do you see our wingers knocking it backwards, when for me at home it should be all out attack.

Then there is the mindset, we should have a defensive mindset away, and an all out attack mindset at home. We have the away mindset sorted, at home we look confused sometimes.
We seem to feel the expectation at home and I think the reigns need loosening at BMD and the players told to go out and enjoy it rather than playing chess at home like we do away.

Didn't give us much hope for this one, well done to them. Now start doing it at home too - no need to change personnel or tactics.
Not many options to change the personnel really, as our squad is thin.
But tactics is another thing, when at home the onus is on us, the expectation different (for all teams) and away teams set up differently, too. Given the players we have and the way Moyes works, we are better away. And, the pressure from our fans is huge at home, unlike when we are away.

Villa were on a great run but earlier on in the season they were terrible. Shows how poor this league is this season when they are being touted as potential champions?

They've picked up a lot more points than they really "ought" to have. Been relying on a number of long range goals, wasn't sustainable. Obviously a good team, sometimes very good, but never really serious challengers in my view.

Just got home, the lads worked really hard, great shift from Garner and O'Brien, good save by Pickford to keep us in front, and another crap VAR decision.

I often call out hyperbole on here, many go over the top, a player performs poorly, has a bad daty and he is "atrocious", "garbage" or the like. But this time it's the opposite. You could have gone for it, written fantastic, wonderful, superb, outstanding, magnificent, sublime, marvellous, or the like, instead of just "good" save! 💙

"Tarkowski has dipped this year"... the stats say otherwise.
