So we spend £20m to finish 5th?? Because to challenge for the top 4 we would need at least £40m, a world class number 10 and 9

For starters you have no idea what was said behind closed doors, what players we were negotiating, and how much money is available. Putting 2+2 together to get 5, like the rest of the people on here
Proofs in the pudding we bought nobody.
You are delluded if you think we had money and never spent it.
Your point was money does not buy success and yet you have now gone back on that i have no idea what your point is

We do have the quality though.
Its the tactics look how wigan played last season

Oh right! So wigan had quality.

We don't have the quality to play how RM wants us to play. Its a work in progress and will improve. You must remember the majority of the players we have now where used to a long ball game and pressing and defending in numbers for many a year and now all of a sudden they have to play in a manner that is alien to most of them but they have grasped it reasonably well BUT guile is missing and movement is not at a premium and that means looking for players that have those attributes to replace the players that don't. RM will be well aware of this and will try to rectify it sooner rather than later. To turn into the footballing machine he wants us to requires time and carefully spent money.................I do believe we are an improved team/squad than what moyes left us with last season without too many changes and that is down to tactics.

PS before any stats of Moyes and RM are thrown at me, what I mean by improved is individual skillsets and style of play.

Wouldn't it be great if Bobby came out and stated publicly that he had instructed his players not to stop play for players feigning injury, Andy Carrol did it when we where in an attacking position, and Arteta did it today, we are too nice. Get mean Everton

Exactly. And we ended up paying for the price.

Wigan did not have quality but we do.
But both wigan last season and us play the same way.
Nice passing football and keep ball but not many efforts on goal

At the minute for me one or 2 players are letting down the rest of the side.

Pienaar being a big one in my eyes, slows down play far too much and doesn't really threaten when he's on the ball because by the time he decides what to do theres 9-10 players behind the ball.

Mirallas is another one, he's far too inconsistent, he's got the ego and aura of a big player but doesn't do enough and doesn't track back much, his form directly coincides with how quiet Seamus has been in the second half of the season attacking wise

A lot of our earlier football in the season came down both flanks, teams didn't know what to expect, I feel that element of surprise has gone and now everything goes back down our left side where incidentally has been dry of creativity all season.

Back to the drawing board for Martinez

Overall, i agree with your analysis, although i think you're being a bit harsh on Mirallas who is easily one of our most exciting and dangerous players. Pienaar, on the other hand, for some time now, is a shadow of what he was before he went to Spurs.

I think we have to hold our hands up and say that, on the day, we were well beaten, and although it pains me to say it i think the scoreline is an accurate reflection of the game. Having watched Arsenal recently, and in particular the way in which they were taken apart by RS, i thought they were there for the taking, but they were class today. I love Martinez's style of football, even if it leaves us open at the back now and then, but i can't help wondering why our one striker, Lukaku, was pushed wide for so much of the game. We needed more firepower, and who knows how things might have transpired if we'd had both Lukaku and Traore (or Naismith) upfront. We were very poor defensively and didn't close down, and for the most part, apart from the first ten minutes, it was back to Moyes-style hoofball, which resulted in too much conceded possession: we had very little confidence on the ball after conceding the first goal and we conceded the game psychologically. Robles looked a bit dodgy but in the end i don't think he was at fault for any of the goals, although i suspect that the lack of confidence he instilled in the defence probably played some part in the end result. Some of our key players (Mirallas, Pienaar, Coleman, Baines) just didn't fire on the day and we missed Jags in the heart of defence. Stones looks promising but it was too big a game for him at this moment in his career. Distin was possibly our man of the match. In the end one moment of brilliance from Barkley (who imo still has much to do to book his seat on the flight to Brazil) is all i will take from this game.

The movement is shocking really. Maybe its the mixture of having less mobile players (Pienaar/Osman), young players needing to learn this (Lukaku/Ross/Deulo) or players just lacking this part of their game such as Kev.

Other way round for me. Pienaar is slow, is playing poorly but is still essential to our style. He is lucky we don't have a decent replacement for him. Whereas Kev has a good game or scores a goal and then dines out on this rep with the fans for a couple of months. He wastes a shocking amount of our possession in the final third and for me hurts the team much more than he helps the team. Was surprised to see him start today.

I'd be surprised if McGeady is good enough to nail down a first team place next season so I think we need two new players in that supporting three to go alongside Ross. One permanent signing and one loan would be fine.

Your point was that its all Kenwrights fault, when it wasn't

End of discussion, the players where more than capable of winning today, and in the Cup Final, and in FA Cup semi, and in the Europa League against Fiorentina, and in the Carling Cup Semi against Chelsea

Gutted. Had two opportunities at 1-1 and up until that mistake in defence leading to their penalty I thought we were the most likely to take the lead. Just feel sick.

I don't think you are grasping what I am trying to say. Yes we have more quality than Wigan I agree, but we still don't have enough quality to trouble the big spenders on a consistent basis. There is a reason the big spenders are above us and that is better quality. When you say not many efforts on goal well that is down to the lack of quality in the final third. We haven't got quick thinking incisive players because they haven't got the quality that is needed.
