I'd say we miss having proper replacements rather than a particular midfielder. Until Barry and McCarthy got knackered from playing every single game they were good enough against pretty much every opponent.
McCarthy isn't knackered, just doesn't seem to have any confidence on the ball, he's restricting himself, and barry at full fitness is still poor athletically, and for a man his size not all that great in the air, theres too many components of a quality midfield partnership missing from these too, they are good, but to play both of them, at least one needs to show a little adventure

Other way round for me. Pienaar is slow, is playing poorly but is still essential to our style. He is lucky we don't have a decent replacement for him. Whereas Kev has a good game or scores a goal and then dines out on this rep with the fans for a couple of months. He wastes a shocking amount of our possession in the final third and for me hurts the team much more than he helps the team. Was surprised to see him start today.

I'd be surprised if McGeady is good enough to nail down a first team place next season so I think we need two new players in that supporting three to go alongside Ross. One permanent signing and one loan would be fine.

I don't really think we've seen enough of McGeady to make such a judgement. Personally speaking i think he shows promise.

Its coming from years of watching him for Ireland and now watching.Pienaar and Kev and seeing the rise in quality we.need to push higher.

Thats why id be surprised if McGeady cements his place and proves good enough to give us that added quality. Its not impossible, but Id be surprised and would prefer two new options in.

I really wish Gibbo was fit, are we ever going to be able to rely on him though, a leroy fer type is needed if not
I like Barry but his lack of pace often leaves him looking clumsy in the tackle. Two athletic holding mids, with Fer offering a bit more support going forward seems a better fit for us. I think both of our wingers not being able to hold onto the ball for very long means midfielders are having to run back and forth an awful lot.

Agree on the pen. Let teams score on merit. Definitely changed game. Sometimes we overplay it and defences are set by the time we're 'ready' for final ball. I don't get the impression we'll ever 'pressurise' teams undet Martinez. He won't be swayed from the way he wants to play which is patiently. We never really forced them back today which sometimes you have to do.

I agree with most of what you say but we have played some exciting football under Martinez and taken teams apart (at least for the first half of the match). I much prefer Martinez in charge than the defensively minded Moyes: football is not just a game of chess, it's about passion too, and Everton excite me far more this season than under Moyes. We still need a few more technically gifted players to be up there with the very best though.

...disappointing for all, no doubt. Game was in the balance, missed chance for us and then a daft penalty. Easy to play once you get a few goals in front. We got blammed at this stage last season, we got blammed today. Bottom line is, are we making progress? I think we are. Understand that some folk are angry, I'd advise no immediate inquisition.

At 1-1 we were the better team and we could've got something from the game if it wasn't for the penalty. Arsenal kicked on and they were a good footballing team who deserved to win. The penalty shook us but we did look dangerous at times and that's the positive to take from it.

QF FA Cup
5-7th league position?

Good first season for the new manager

75th min and 80th are too late for subs to make an impact. Takes 5 or so mins to actually get in the game. Osman sub was a bit baffling. I would have understood if it was in like 60th to help us keep the ball better
