Kone is the Home Brand version of your favourite product.

He should be involved in quite a few goals by his position alone. He's going to be in front of goal, so he's going to be a target for passes up there. Consider how many of our goals Rom is involved in. Then compare the quality of the two. I think Kone has SOMETHING, but he was not very good today. He slowed play down and broke down a few dangerous attacks on his own.

Fair enough, but the slowing things down thing for me still is a confidence/game time issue.

I don't remember anything before Lennon laying Coleman off for the second so he could well have done to be fair.

Yes, Kone carried the ball down the left wing then moved inside with the ball before giving it to Lennon, who then laid it out to Seamus.

Kone then moved into the box and took up a position at the near post for Seamus to aim at and all the defender could do to stop him was hit the ball straight to Lennon and voila.

Kone played crucial roles in both goals.

Only a genius would think

Let's buy Alcaraz and Kone together to strengthen the squad.
tbf kone tore us up when moyes was here. problem was he is a pace based striker who was getting on, not to mention missing a year has taken all his pace away. Risky signing going in no doubt and it backed fired with the injury

Yep, go and buy any footballer who is 30+ and one bad injury will instantly make it look like a terrible signing.

Or perhaps a new manager taking over a squad and changing the system might want a few players around that were familiar with his system.

It's really not that hard to work out...

a system that got Wigan relegated.

but he won an FA Cup with them.

Is this the Martinez special?

"A system that got Wigan relegated" ... LOL, do you even know anything about footy? Wigan were doomed the day the 2008 financial crisis kicked in, and old Dave lost his play money. It's a miracle they stayed up for as long as they did.

Yes but Naisy played the Kone role in the last ten minutes today, looked ok - our midfield needs moving up, the pitch ten yards to support any of our strikers.

Yes, thats fine, but Robertos problem is that if he plays Naismith solely as a striker, he has to cover the loss of Naismiths defensive contribution, and that would almost certainly mean that Gibson would not be picked in midfield, our midfield would be OK(on paper!) defensively, but lack any creativity at all. Far to many on here under estimate how valuable Naismith is to the team, and therefore to Roberto. It proves that not being as technically gifted as others are supposed to be does not neccessarily mean you are not one of the first names on the team sheet.

Dave didn't lose much money, he sold his company when he saw the writing on the wall. Very shrewd is Dave, and hard as nails. The walk up to the DW Stadium is via a retail park,a pub and restaurants (sound familiar?), and Dave indirectly is the rent man.
But you are right, Wigan were never sustainable as a Premier League club, because Daves kind of rich would never compete with sheiks, billionaire Russians, or American franchisees. It also confirms that Everton will never truly be with the 'elite'again until we have big, big money behind us. Problem is that sheiks , rich Russians and the right kind of Americans etc. are few and far between in the real world. Clubs may be bought and sold, but not many will be bought from now on and suddenly find themselves competing with City, United and Chelsea for the very best players.
