Hmm, not sure I'd agree with that Bruce.

If Unsy can get the young 'uns winning trophies, it'll help breed and instil the winning mentality that's needed in the first team at the highest level.

Look at the German national teams, their young 'uns win most of the tournaments they go into and then when they step to senior level, they perform and invariably go deep into or win World Cups.

Nowt better than a winning attitude and habit ;)

Do they though? Germany haven't reached the semi-finals of the under 20 World Cup since 1987. They've won one under 21 Euros in the past 30 years, and 2 under 19 Euros in the same time frame. I've no doubt they do things incredibly well in Germany, but their youth teams are not prolific winners at international level, and no more so than English youth teams.

Well whatever they do, they breed a winning mentality for the senior ranks at least :)

Ready for the push? I'd say the only goal of the youth teams is to develop players for either the first team or at least a senior career. Trophies are irrelevant imo.

Winning creates a winning mentality. Winning trophies and learning to win trophies is a major part of the development of the youth. They are hugely relevant. Winner are expensive creatures, it makes sense to create them rather than just buy them.

Tbf unsworth has already helped produce millions of pounds worth of talent for the first team, so I trust him in doing sort of whatever he wants, He knows what he is doing.

If his side can win the league then that's fantastic, It comes secondary to producing players.. But he's already doing that.

I can see maybe the donkor loan is a bit of us wanting to see what he can offer us and if there's a potential route to first team, and also Wolfsburg not wanting to have their hands tied fee Wise, puts them in a stronger position for if we want him in the summer

Okay, a final stat for you. In the past 17 years, of all of the teams that have won the FA Youth Cup, only 5 have gone on to win full England caps, with those illustrious names being: Keiran Richardson, Jack Wilshere, Jay Bothroyd, Adam Johnson and Jesse Lingaard. So not only are these apparent winners progressing to the full England team at the rate of 1 every 3 years, but the quality of them is hardly earth shattering.

Correct. Unsy is there to produce first teamers. Winning trophies us secondary.

Winning trophies is a great result of producing first teamers surely. If we get players to a good enough standard to play in the Premier League in our U23s they will win trophies as they'll be strong.

Plus it breeds a winning mentality in to the young lads coming through, something which the fans say we lack in our first team.

Maybe that type of player is missing from the U23's and it would benefit OUR youngsters to play along side him.

EG. A full backs development may be hampered if they are not playing with a winger that allows them to overlap and get forward.

Look at who the winners of the Youth Cup were, though, Bruce.

Chelsea
Chelsea
Chelsea
Norwich City
Chelsea
Manchester United
Chelsea
Arsenal
Manchester City
Liverpool
Liverpool

The point being their development in likelihood will be blocked by imported stars.

Yeah that's changed my view. Providing first team players is key. But in order to do so, we need to mould them into winners first of all.

i googled donk to try to find out what it means..
