It's the aftermath of that webbing that I'm worried about. The bad-matyrdom that'll result from it (nobody had heard of Richard Spencer before he was punched). Uploading that video is far more effective at demeaning their game than one of them getting a punch.

justified, one million percent, as you're potentially saving a life or at least putting a stop to further violence. Any people who pose a serious immediate threat need to be dealt with quickly, and sometimes a violent act is the only way. I'm on board, deffo. And the law would have our backs too.

This is not ok as regardless of what a gigantic tosser of a boy Spencer is, he wasn't posing a threat to anyone, and advocating this leads to advocating even worse down the line.
White supremacists deserve every punch they get.

I don't think he is defending them as far as I can see it. They may deserve to be punched, but they should be allowed their little clique and voice what they want to as long as it is legal. If they cross the line or can be charged with inciting hatred then they should be punished by law.
If you fight them you are just giving them the opportunity to garner sympathy for the cause and may get more people to fight with them. Then you end up with two sides tooling up becoming larger and larger, squeezing out the middle until you end up with a civil war, or at least very bad civil unrest.
White supremacists and their views should be illegal. They deserve zero oxygen to express their views.
The fact that Spencer is the so called founder of the alt right movement that folks like Bannon and Trump have exploited, proves that. Giving a voice to people like Spencer returns grave outcomes.

I don't disagree with the principle but can't you see the carrying out of such ideas would make us as bad if not worse than the hate they spew? The trick is keeping them in their box as much as possible, one day there may have to be a fight but imho we are not there yet.
I thought we were there until about 5-10 years ago when people like Spencer found a voice on the internet.
There is no longer a box to keep them in because of social media. People are getting elected to political offices by aligning themselves with these abhorrent rats.
The 'identity politics' that folks try to label progressives with is the #1 card that conservatives have in their playbook. Fear immigrants, fear people of color, fear people that are different...

The trick is having better education, teach young people how their views do not hold weight and what has happened historically when far right groups get in power. If the numbers are kept down they become irrelevant. Social media probably brings more awareness but if the kids are already taught to be resistant then they are more likely to laugh it off thinking 'nutjobs'.
