Imagine actually sticking up for Richard Spencer’s right to not get twatted. What a thread this is turning out to be.

I respect you @dholliday, but this mantra you have of stating that "everything is alright, stop worrying" is a little bit of a cop out as far as I'm concerned.

We're experiencing a period in which the alt-right and various other white supremacist/fascistic groups are growing in prominence, with validation from the democratically elected President of the global superpower. The question we have to answer is how can be best react and combat these cancerous tumours within society, knowing that failure to do so will likely result in mass genocide - as history has shown time and time again.

A worrying trend I've seen is this false equivalence being stated about fascists, and those two don't want fascism. An important point to keep in mind when discussing this is that the vast majority of people that protest against fascist tendencies do it peacefully.

Even with that stated fact, the use of violence to combat moral evils like should never be considered the same as using violence to further fascist goals.

As many posters have alluded to here, look at the situation with a historical context. Anyone with even a slight knowledge in the rise of Nazism would tell you that it was a result of a failure of liberalism to combat the fascist tendency beyond soundbites akin to "well good sir, I vehemently disagree with what you have just said - but will die for your right to say it".

I don't enjoy seeing fascists get smacked in the jaw, but I don't share the views with some of you that they deserve a right of platform. Those who seek to destroy liberal democracy and the rule of law should not be given equal validation within it.

TL;DR: Punching a Nazis isn't exactly what I want - but sometimes it needs to happen because they're scum.

21st century Neo-Nazi wannabes holding Union Jack flags and shouting indecipherably in the street with cans of Skol in their hand are not the same as the Nazis.

I'm talking about the kind of people that support mass deportation of "Moslems".

And the kind of people that do the Nazi salute, and wear Nazi uniform, and do Nazi stuff.

Y'know. Nazis.

Yeah Let’s give these lads a platform so we can debate them, they don’t really mean the things they say and they haven’t actually killed any Jews so calling them nazis is a bit harsh.

Nazis didn't emerge fully-formed into the world either - they too originated as and drew on unemployed belligerent incel louts, literally gathered in beer halls.

To be sure, we are not there yet... it will be after the next great financial meltdown that this might really start to become a factor

Except we're talking about Antifa, who don't actually go after those people, they violently assault people who went into a polling station and put a tick in a different box than them.

Lol wut ? You clearly have no idea what you’re talking about. I suggest you watch that video and do some research on Charlottesville, its by far the most well known event involving Antifa.
