He didn’t, the truth is he really wasn’t that good to begin with. Strangely he seemed to be the pundits favourite always cooing about his silky footballing skills whilst ignoring the lack of end product and professing he would be ‘some player’ once he had time to adapt to the Premiership. This sadly convinced many that Gomes was indeed a talent, sadly it would seem he isn’t.

No but he is on the right lines, Gomes wasn't really all that, a nice player on the eye but didn't really affect games enough

Prior to the season starting I wrote about Gomes in a team review and said that he needed to play in a deeper role or he wouldn't be useful as he's not good in areas of high pressure, best example is of his game in the 4321. He is best arriving late to help with the attacking movement when he can see the play developing ahead of him and moving it to the most dangerous areas to begin the attack. In a deeper role he will be supported by Doucoure and Allan who can maraud the field ahead of him and support him in defense.

I still don't think he's in our best team at the moment with either Bernard or James being my preferred choice to as the 3rd CM but he'd give the us the option to push Allan forward more where he's played his best soccer over the years prior to JPG coming back or having to use Godfrey out of position or Delph who tends to slow the game down too much for Carlo's quick vertical movement attacking style.

I don’t think being out for 2 months has had that much of an impact on his footballing ability.

I think Gomes is an idea more than a player. He hasn’t fitted the mould set for him by us or his previous club if I’m honest. I just can’t get over how poor his numbers are.

He’s so sexy and such a nice guy though. Liverpool away in the Pickford derby. West Ham away when we did them 2-0 and he totally dominated. Sadly these performances are contrasted with a generous sprinkling of mediocre-dire performances.

Hope he hits some consistent form and realises he is in a fight to be a first team regular. I’m moving more towards James as one of the middle three and a more energetic right side.

i was all for signing him permanently on loan as well cause he looked real classy but any club with top aspirations wouldn't accept such from a talented player

that is really pathetic for someone of Gomes quality

in the 4 league games Gomes started in that third midfield position we won 3 and drew one. The three other games after he hasn’t started three of them and started one effectively playing on the wing. We lost three and only won v Brighton in a game most felt we never really had control in midfield. It’s obviously not a simple direct correlation in any way but for all those now calling Gomes useless there was nothing wrong in my view with his performances against Spurs, WBA, Palace, and whilst he wasn’t that good against Liverpool we didn’t get dismantled against a far better team in the way we have in the three losses since to average opposition.

He was awful against Newcastle out of position (so was everyone) and hadn’t been good coming off the bench. But he’s been nowhere near as bad as Siggurdson over the course of the season who has been completely and utterly useless in every single minute he’s played. The drop off in our performance against Spurs when Gomes went off and Siggurdson came on told you everything about the level the two were at then. Gomes can get back to that form, Sigurdsson will never be capable of it because he’s an imposter of a footballer.
