For that price, why not? Was a big fan of his when he was at Leeds. Admittedly he's been [Poor language removed] at Newcastle, but as others have said, if ever there was a manager to get the best out of someone like him.... (y)

£1.75m is nothing really, and if it doesn't work out it's not like we've wasted a massive chunk of our budget on him (well, in theory...)

For 1.5 million he would be a useful player to have on the bench and come on in midfield or upfront and do a good job. I doubt he would be happy being a bit part player and he would struggle to get a regular starting place for us unless Moyes does some magic with him.

reading through we have 2 distint camps.

2) people who think, even on a free, the only positive contribution he would make would be if he laid down the cones in training.

going to be an interesting transfer to watch the developments!

At least it would make him more useful than VDM.

Alan Smith is a pile of [Poor language removed]. 0 goals in 37 games for Newcastle. Overpaid, overweight, overrated

1. Never judge a player while playing for the barcodes
2. He will have to take a pay cut anywhere he goes
3. Over weight? Hardly!
4. The last time he was 'overated' was at Manure.

You try and give me another player for that money and that class (not saying he is a Ronaldo).

he has never fulfilled the promise shown at leeds , why should it happen now

big NO from me
