Asked my mate who supports Newcastle about Smith and he came back with the following...

"I think we’ll enjoy taking your money mate HA HA HA!!!!!!

The most over rated player in English football mate…..honestly!

Look at it this way…..the Leeds fans loved him, and they’re all inbreds!"

LOL!

Hes a good player, was at leeds and united. Come on, look at newcastle, they hardly ever played him in attack, on the wing or att. Mid. Besides it is Newcastle, most players go there to end their career prospects.

£1.5 million sign him up. Besides, Moyes knows what he is doing.

£1.5m is peanuts and Smith is a good squad member if he's played to his strengths. But wages would be a stumbling block. I believe he's pulling in 60k a week at the Geordies. He's worth 25k a week maximum, in my opinion.

This coming from a fan who thinks Newcastle will be in the champions league next season?

One that is going to divide the whole fanbase if he signs. No pressure on him if does then eh :S

Leeds: Great metropolitan city with a history of importing citizens from all over the world.

Newcastle: A small backwater city in the middle of nowhere. Nobody ever moves too it.

So which city is more likely a haven for inbreeding?

Hmm I live in Newcastle and find your comments somewhat inaccurate. Its hardly small to start with, and I moved here so there :P

I wont argue about the inbreeding though, that does happen here quite a bit lol!

Its a cool place to live though.

Be careful mate my cousins son moved up there and has never been the same since:lol:As for Smith I think its time we accept Kenwright has messed up again and we are skint(NO I'm not blaming him for not being rich enough just his money management skills)and Smith sadly is a getable target and almost any one will do at the moment as how do we fill the bench for games,Kids are fine but certain situations need experiance truthfully I am already happy to take a top ten place at the end of the season:(

i dont know what to think here.

my first thought was "oh no not alan smith hes a has been ponce ".

then i thought "well he is 27 (prime) an england international , likes to rough it up , can play midfeild or striker and is 1.75 million"

i cant beleive im saying this , but i think moyes will get the best out of him and that he would be good for the squad.

from the guardian rumour mill...

"In a little-used cloakroom, Everton are holding Newcastle upside-down by the ankles and shaking them until all their dinner money, a Highland Toffee and Alan Smith fall out of the Geordies' pockets. United will make themselves feel better by sneaking out to the chip shop with Deportivo's Fabricio Coloccini."

got to love the guardian.

Honestly, less than £2 million is good. We know Moyes gets teh best out of people. At Newcastle he was played in the wrong posisiton, and their training is very different from ours - Its [Poor language removed].

By getting this, we can save alot of money, But is this the replacement for johnson? Well if it is it isnt actaully that bad, considering we have vaughan and anichebee, and play a 4-5-1 constantly...

...This could just be because of the lack of money, Moyes has to look back at his targets a few years ago, the only ones he can afford.
