Transfer Rumour Aaron Wan-Bissaka

In fairness it's not just randomly rounding it up. There's some relevance there because obviously there are no games for the next 3 months, so pointing out that he'll turn 29 within the first 10 games or whatever of the season does add a little bit of context.
A definite starter, at 29-30, who we will get nothing back on, on huge wages (alleged 100k currently, doubt he drops to 50 just for the love of the game) - yeah, I'd think twice to be honest. We also know him and he's nothing special - he'd be better than JOB as he's a real life right back, but that bar's on the ground.

Alternatively, it's why Moyes will fight for him, as we know him, "eXpErIeNce" and all that.

He's bang average, which admittedly is a million times better than what we currently have in that position, but for the age and the wages... I'd be okay with it if there was a younger right back coming in to develop as well.

Doubt this happens, but it'd be the best course of action. We could probably even stomach Trippier as back up (if that link was true, and if Patterson is gone).

If we keep trying to fill the team with players from relegated clubs then we'll continue to find ourselves in the bottom half of the table.

Everton must have the least imaginative transfer committee in the league. I just hope it's lazy journalism and we're not really letting Moyes fill our squad with average, aging players on high wages, with no resale and a diminishing return. As we'll end up struggling financially again.

You'd like to think the Friedkins have witnessed Everton for a year now and realise that the whole club needs a change in attitude from top to bottom. But I guess they'd have to actually attend at some point to even notice.

Gana was 1st or 2nd (behind Kante) for every metric a defensive midfielder could have, cost 8m, and wasn't 30 years old. In fact, we made a massive profit on him when we sold him to PSG, as he was still in his prime.

Jagielka was a defender/defensive mid who put in very solid performances over an entire season and didn't do much wrong, who also wasn't 30 years old.

I'd say both were good recruitment on our side, shockingly. :/

Arouna Kone and Antolin Alcaraz were also relegated if we're cherry picking like this?
I get shivers down my spine and a little bit of vomit comes up my throat when I read the name Anatolin Alcaraz

27-30 is the prime of a players career. And it's not as if every player turns 30 and then overnight loses 10 yards of pace and hits the treatment table. Every player is different, and with current sports science and personal professionalism most players maintain elite levels of physical output well into their 30s. AWB doesn't turn 29 until 26 Nov. I'll round that up to December. Buying a player who turns 29 one third of the way into the season... not sure it's as much as a red flag as the OG poster is making out (or a red flag at all, for that matter).

Bit of a trend on here for people to flag the fact so and so turns <insert age> at some foggy point in the next 12 months, as if it should weigh heavily against the player. I just don't buy it, think that's lazy analysis.

What weighs more against AWB is his capacity to look good in a team that wants to finish in the top third of the table. Just don't think the fact that he turns 30 in a year and half to be remarkable, other than pointing out the likely lack of resale value. But if it's for £10m that is also somewhat irrelevant (plus not everyone we buy can be sub 25 and profitable).

I think in the context of the discussion there's enough of a difference between a 28 year old who's going to be 28 for the entire upcoming season and a 28 year old who'll turn 29 10 games in personally. It's obviously not the deciding factor of whether it's worth buying him, but I think it's worthy of a mention in passing and isn't the same as just randomly saying 'he'll turn X at some point in the future'. 28/29 isn't too old for anyone to be a good signing, but for a player who's already average at his best and a position in which we've been desperate for a long term solution for 5/6 years already, it's not an ideal situation and it's fairly easy to see why people think it's worth discussing.
