I suppose it depends on who we get in the cup next round lol

I'm not saying mentally he doesn't deserve a spot. I think he does, hes really got his head down and played for the team.

Using Mirallas as an example is a bit of a misnomer though, he's off 1st chance he gets...

I think experience is a good thing when blended correctly, I just don't see what he adds as a threat...

I would say (and could be wrong) that if someone suffers a major physical injury then that can prevent them from playing football at a high level again (Blomqvist) whereas if someone has mental issues then this would not prevent them from attaining the same level of ability they have previously reached (Lennon).

I agree that he is industrious and I suppose you could call him tenacious as well, like Naismith. He also does have pace...but he cant cross, he cant shoot and so what exactly does he bring as a threat to the opposition?

You know nothing of mental illness, you numpty.

One of the major symptoms of depression is a complete and utter lack of energy.

You permanently feel tired and lethargic, plus quite often you suffer from insomnia too, which compounds an already bad situation.

This can last for a very long time.

I advise you to have a look at Stan Collymores time at Liverpool, when he couldn't get out of bed, due being so tired whilst his depression was at its peak. He missed many games as a result and couldn't train for ages.

In short, pipe down and stick to things that you think you know about, like youth team players.

Again, its too simplistic a view of it.

He can shoot. What makes you think he cant? When he got a run in his first season he got 5 goals in 25 games. Not brilliant but decent enough. Crossing is such a vague thing anyway. Andrei Kanchelskis was a rubbish crosser too. It doesn't really mean anything.

What Lennon does do is win the ball and play it to someone else who can then provide an assist or whatever. Although he may not be directly attributed to assisting a goal (again nonsense stats but whatever...) he will usually have a hand in the build up play.

He is not like Naismith. Naismith spent most of his career in Scotland and then had a few games for us before dipping down to the Championship. Aaron Lennon has spent his whole career in the Premier League at clubs who have been in the top half of the table. There is a reason for that.

There is more to being a player than just shooting and crossing. He offers balance to our team which for me is just as important as what "threat" he brings to the opposition.

I am delighted that he is getting a run in the team just now, a wholehearted player who always tries his hardest and works as hard defensively as he does in attack.
However I don't think he offers enough attacking threat and doesn't seem to frighten defenders anymore.
He is a player that I could see move on in January.

I cant see that, he is an Allardyce type player.

i did enjoy him taking on Robertson about 5 times on the run in the derby to run down the clock.

Under big Sam we are always going to be defensively sound , but his teams have always had a couple of players that can turn defence into attack very quickly and pose a threat on the break.
I don't think Lennon can do this, for all his qualities and at his age I don't think sitting on a bench every week will appeal.

He has been playing though so I am not too concerned about that and he still has pace. If Bolasie comes back to anything like full strength I can see them both splitting time.

End of the season.

I think he's bounced back brilliantly from his spell of depression. Full marks for being candid about it, and full marks for his recovery which makes him a positive example for anyone else out there maybe feeling like he felt.

Absolutely brilliant to be showing the form he's showing again (it's great watching out and out wingers have a go at people). He's great at getting into the box and tucks back in when we're off the ball, too. Just another of the reasons why wools like me love Everton;
  • Unique club
  • Produces tonnes of talent
  • Sticks by it's own
  • David Unsworth saw the progression back to first Xi
  • A young lad is out there doing the biz again.

Nil satis nisi optimum.

Do you think he'll be offered a new contract?

Fantastic player, always been a personal favorite of mine since we took him off Tottenham. Wouldn't mind seeing him placed more centrally for a game or two to take some pressure off of DCL. Thought he did well in that role a couple seasons ago, although he is a pure winger.

Is he now back to 100% fitness?

Seems so...

Yet someone who has had a major physical injury may never attain the same level of fitness.

Which was my point.

we'll have to agree to disagree. I don't think he should be in the premier league unless for a really bottom team where he can be a defensive winger.

I cant see that, he is an Allardyce type player.

Allardyce has had Okocha, Djorkaeff, Campo and some pretty interesting wide players over the years...

He just hasn't had the money to go out and buy in stars and hes been brought into poor clubs.

I think its unfair to label Lennon an Allardyce player....

Yeah fine but seeing as he has spent his whole career at the top end of the premier league then I think you are being a bit daft there.

It is not remotely unfair to label him an Allardyce player because I rate him unlike you so we are both on the same page with Allardyce just not the player.

It wasn`t you cock spanner.

Read you posts again.

What you are saying is, that if a player suffers from mental illness, then this " would not prevent them from attaining the same level of ability ", upon recovery.

How about players that have to retire due to depression or even worse, like the German goal keeper Robert Enke, who killed himself.

Stop digging and stick to scouting reports on foreign teenagers and our youth team players.
