Lets ask a different question, other than the loan when he first joined (and had some good games), when he has played would you consider him to be good enough for any of the top 6 or, potentially good enough?
I already stated in my follow-up post that he makes a perfect 'backup player' if anything.

He has been out with depression! It is a pretty major thing when discussing the bloke and how he has played.

First of all we are not a top six team. But for us to push on is he good enough as a squad player? Yes of course he is. I am not saying we should play him every game nor am I saying we should not be looking at other options, but to have a bloke who has spent his career playing at a high level in the top flight who offers pace and workrate as well as being able to help out the likes of Kenny progress then yes he is good enough.

It is far too simplistic to just look at a player and say would he get into a top six side. All top clubs have serviceable squad players who can step in when needed and offer something different.

Not everybody has to be a superstar or world beater. Sometimes its good to just have a solid player (and he is solid) around the squad who can step in and wont cause a fuss when not playing every game.

Good post mate.

By the way, Zat doesn`t rate any player who is over twenty, so I wouldn`t read too much into what he says

He not the best crosser of the ball, especially when on the move, but his final ball is decent otherwise. Lays the ball and looks for space, its only when he's isolated that the final ball is poor IMO. Not sure Id start him once Coleman is back as his crossing is worse but as long as Kenny starts at RB Lennon needs to be RW for me.

Well, I'd rather you answered the question that I asked you before you start posing other questions lol But fine, if you are unable to answer we can move on. Personally I have never said he is a top six club player, I don't see Everton as a top six club, and I would be very hard pushed to find any player at our club right now good enough to play for one of the top six.

Fair enough, I personally think 'backup' players should be sold.

1st eleven + u21 squad players to rotate and eventually take the positions.

Natural progression rather than a gulf of quality from 1st to 2nd choice.

Seems a waste of a squad place to me...let alone starting him. Really offers nothing going forward anymore than a right back out of position would....its like having 2 right backs.

I was going to post that quite a few times but kept deleting it as I didn't want to be mean to him....

Taking this further, why would you want to pay 50k+ weekly wages who has no outstanding qualities and most people think his best attribute is akin to playing as a defensive winger eg a 2nd right back.

Instead it makes FAR more sense to play Lookman or Vlasic who can actually do something.

I cant think of a top manager who would keep such a player on the pitch...

Then, again as others have stated he's a backup player for a non-top 6 side...how to progress with these players...

Well I don't care how much he is paid as its not my money.

This is where your argument falls down. Lookman and Vlasic can actually do something? Erm when exactly? They have done nothing so far. Not even having a go at them, they are both kids who have shown some flashes at times but have also been annonymous at others. Lennon has been a top flight player at a good standard for 10+ years.

I can't think of a top manager who would be playing Lookman or Vlasic week in week out at this stage in their careers either.

Also you keep saying he offers nothing, well he actually does doesn't he? That's kind of the point.

Again I think your viewpoint is way to simplistic. Asking how we progress by having a back up for a none top 6 team. Top 6 teams have backs up who realistically would not be first teamers for a top 6 side. Just taking Manchester United of the past as an example you had guys like Ronny Johnson, David May even our very own Jesper Blomqvist who were squad guys who could step in when called upon and not let anyone down. Its a squad game and you need some players like that who know the league and have proven themselves in it. Lennon is absolutely one of them.

I think if you factor in the European and cup competitions you'll find that the 3 united players mentioned were starters in a lot of games + Blomqvist had a bad injury which is why he ended up joining us...

Lookman has just scored 2 crackers, Vlasic also a great goal...they've both showed more attacking verve than Lennon has since he permanently joined.

Lennon really offers nothing going forward...he only offers something going back.

I cant even think of another 'defensive winger'...

When is his contract up lol

I reckon against crapper opposition we could play him RB and Kenny LB.

He's actually been useful recently though mate. He deserves to be in the squad a lot more than the likes of Mirallas in my opinion.

The younger lads should play more but you can't have a bench of young players, you need experience coming on the pitch and we seemed much better when Lennon came on at Anfield.

Yes they scored some nice goals against a poor side. This has nothing to do with the Premier League.

You use Blomqvist's bad injury as an excuse but fail to use Lennon's problems as an excuse for him. I find that a bit odd.

You can keep saying Lennon offers nothing going forward as much as you want, it doesn't make it any more true. His industry and tenacity along with his pace creates chances and can cause defensive unrest in the opponent.

He is not a "defensive winger". He is a winger who works hard and tracks back well, there is a difference there and there are plenty who do that.

I like Lookman don't get me wrong, but he has had like two good games for us so far (his first and last one).

I suppose it depends on who we get in the cup next round lol

I'm not saying mentally he doesn't deserve a spot. I think he does, hes really got his head down and played for the team.

Using Mirallas as an example is a bit of a misnomer though, he's off 1st chance he gets...

I think experience is a good thing when blended correctly, I just don't see what he adds as a threat...

I would say (and could be wrong) that if someone suffers a major physical injury then that can prevent them from playing football at a high level again (Blomqvist) whereas if someone has mental issues then this would not prevent them from attaining the same level of ability they have previously reached (Lennon).

I agree that he is industrious and I suppose you could call him tenacious as well, like Naismith. He also does have pace...but he cant cross, he cant shoot and so what exactly does he bring as a threat to the opposition?
