A concern about Martinez's approach

Hopefully it works out, but of course if by May 2014 there is no real sign of progress then yes we would probably have to look elsewhere.

It's cool how you didn't acknowledge any of my points though (y) I'm also sceptical of Martinez, just think fans should actually allow him a chance though. I dunno give him till say.................

......May 2014?

oh, ok then i will bite....style not arsed but IF he looses a couple of key players then yes that COULD affect his outlook BUT by all accounts he has had his replacements lined up from the start. So I,can,t give him an out on that one.

Honestly, I have no time regarding the arguments of style.

History Books don,t speak about style just winners, looses and points. Everton Football club play in competitions to win things...it,s that simple.

If the EPL start giving points and prizes for style then I,am sure Bob will be well in their, like.

If the style of the School Of Science comes back I'll be delighted. The best of winning teams win with style.

But why does it seem everything has to be absolute with you?

So if, by your standards, he doesn't show signs of progress then he must go in May? What are your minimum requirements for the season ahead?

Surely there is a place to say that even if we have gone a bit backwards by the end of the season that we can still be patient and give a bit more time to the new man in a new job just as was given to Moyes?

Unless you are of the belief that things could get so bad under Bobby that we will be relegated? I think we have the luxury of letting him have a couple of seasons to see what he can do because it seemed unlikely we were going to suddenly jump up the table under Moyes anyway....so not much will have changed.

Give him two seasons, unless theres a disaster, and then see how things stand. We will be showing a lot more class than most clubs in the Premiership thats for sure...which is how it should be.

Missed 6 aways under Moyes and you think we played ok footy generally over that time...dream on...
Im all for giving Martinez a go ..Kin ell Moyes had 11 years and won us diddly...
cant wait to see a different attitide and playing style... and go to places and go for a win....COYB

It's not like Moyes never tried to change the style, it just looked awful when he did and we reverted back to a more direct brand of football. Which to be honest is my preferred option, see the the first few months of last season.

Nothing wrong with having concerns. It's natural given the fact that Moyes did such a good job here for XI years. It won't be easy for the next manager to keep those standards up. In fact, I don't expect Martinez to do that and didn't expect it from whoever we were linked with.

However, I did expect us to be a bit more up for this season than we are atm. I expected more exciting signings. I thought he'd take full advantage of our larger wage budget, attractiveness and our rare net spend and really try and drive home that advantage with some really exciting buys. Time's not up though and perhaps the kitty's not depleted yet. I'm of the opinion he might have made things a tad more difficult for himself than he could have though.

If players can't play in different formations then they're not good enough. It takes a bit of time obviously but I'm more exited about this season than I have been for a long time. As long as we don't get relegated I don't care. Looking forward to some proper passing football finally.

Martinez is sussing out his best players. I think he will do better than Moyes.
I just hope we are not too rigid with this playing out from the keeper.
Sometimes hoofball is the only option.

Im happy with what Martinez has done so far, will take him time to really get the no our players, this pre season is more about that than anything

Everton legend Graeme Sharp has told new manager Martinez points and not performances must remain the priority.

“The football under David Moyes towards the end of his time in charge was excellent and enjoyable to watch,” said Sharp. “And most importantly, it got results.

“There’s no use playing all this pretty passing football if you aren’t going to turn it into points. You can talk all you want about systems and formations, but it means nothing unless you are getting victories.

“But I’m sure the fans will get behind the new manager, because they will be able to see what he is trying to do.”

Sharp added: “Supporters are going to see a lot more passing than maybe they have been used to during the past decade.

“The keeper will be throwing the ball out more, the team will try to play more out of the back and there won’t be as many long balls bypassing midfield.

“The fans will have to be patient but the one thing everyone must remember is that it’s all about winning.”

just wondering if it was a mistake from a tactical point of view to promote and televise all the pre-season games with such a big marketing campaign. Have to say in the past I was pretty much oblivious to them. Now hard not to pick through them and forget that they are just glorified training sessions. Still excited, think most of our players suit a passing style and didn't see enough of it. The balance may take awhile but hopefully everyone including Martinez is up for learning along the way. Nice to be on a roller coaster rather than a merry go round, and even better we don't have to share it with arrogant no marks like Rodgers, Gerrard and Suarez
